Now a National Bestseller. Climate change is real but it's not the end of the world. It is not even our most serious environmental problem. Michael Shellenberger has been fighting for a greener planet for decades. He helped save the world's last unprotected redwoods. He co-created the predecessor to today's green new deal. And he led a successful effort by climate scientists and activists to keep nuclear plants operating, preventing a spike of emissions. But in 2019, as some claimed "billions of people are going to die," contributing to rising anxiety, including among adolescents, Shellenberger decided that, as a lifelong environmental activist, leading energy expert, and father of a teenage daughter, he needed to speak out to separate science from fiction. Despite decades of news media attention, many remain ignorant of basic facts. Carbon emissions peaked and have been declining in most developed nations for over a decade. Deaths from extreme weather, even in poor nations, declined 80 percent over the last four decades. And the risk of Earth warming to very high temperatures is increasingly unlikely thanks to slowing population growth and abundant natural gas. Curiously, the people who are the most alarmist about the problems also tend to oppose the obvious solutions. What's really behind the rise of apocalyptic environmentalism. There are powerful financial interests.

Must read

An absolute must read book that offers balanced yet different angle on the most hot subject. Packed with facts from a very broad set of sources, the book provides materials that an average person might not always instantly find on his/her own. Even more credibility for me personally lands the fact that the author comes from the environmental activism community himself. Definitely recommend reading to get a fresh perspective and a new angle you won’t find coming from the mass media and public figures of today.

One of today's most important books

I don't remember the last time I read something by an environmentalist who had two characteristics: honesty, and a regard for human life. If Michael Shellenberger represents the future of environmentalism, then mankind has a future. His coverage of environmentalist alarmist causes is comprehensive. Thorough. He covers the scandalous attempt to kill nuclear power, the on-sustainability and destructiveness of "renewables," and the political corruption that fuels environmental boondogles (including a brief mention of Kamala Harris). This book is like an antidote to the poison of climate / environmental panic; let's hope the poison is not systemic beyond cure.

Intelligent and Heartfelt

In a time when it seems that no one can agree on anything, this book was refreshing in that it lays out a way forward to saving the environment, elevating those in underdeveloped nations, and using the technologies that we have at our disposal to fuel our world into the future - not at the expense of nature, but rather in the restoration of it. Mr Shellenberger brings in personal stories and those of people around the world providing a unique perspective. All of the material is well documented and rational. Thank you for adding the moral and spiritual dimension to our relationship with the environment. This is a must read for anyone who has been scared by the environmental apocalyptic rantings that the world is ending.

A healthy dose of environmental optimism

As they begin reading Apocalypse Never, readers not familiar with the author's work might feel twisted in knots: "Isn't the word 'alarmism' the domain of climate deniers?", and "Why would sane Africans not want to preserve endangered animals?", they might wonder, hackles raised. But I suspect many of those readers will finish the book realizing the cognitive dissonance ringing in their ears is the sound of their own preconceptions being smashed against the wall - followed by a sense of relief. Shellenberger's indictment of global environmental causes, and the big money behind them, is a suitable followup to Michael Moore's documentary "Planet of the Humans". One by one, the author examines common myths of climate change, and traces their historical, cultural, and financial roots. Equal parts science and philosophy, peppered with colorful anecdotes gathered during his travels in developing countries, Apocalypse Now is diligently researched, and its copious footnotes never feel pretentious or out-of-place. Best of all, Shellenberger leaves readers thinking positive thoughts for the future - an amazing accomplishment in itself.
