Dear Chuck Bee, Thank you for your comment. We do understand your disappointment with the product and the inconvenience this may have caused if 5.1 is not working properly. The 5.1 digital output works properly, the issue you are experiencing is random. To resolve this, ensure you are using a compatible and working optical cable and the audio driver posted at: https://www.asus.com/us/motherboards-components/sound-cards/gaming/xonar-se/helpdesk_download?model2Name=Xonar-SE . Additionally, check if your PC meets the system requirements of the sound card. If it does meet requirements, ensure OS and chipset driver are up to date. Furthermore, right-click the speaker icon at the bottom righthand corner, got to Playback, select your playback device that supports 5.1 surround sound system. Furthermore, ensure you are using a 5.1 surround sound speaker system. Should you need further assistance with the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be more than happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent from the link: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/1135/. Thank you for choosing an ASUS product. Regards, Rodel ASUS Customer Loyalty

Music is in the Ear of the Listener

A person can use the pc as a stereo like I do and save space, & money. With less equipment to manage. Asus makes Quality items and this audio card was nice. Easy to install, Win11 picked up the device at first startup, & It worked right away. Win11 in particular seems to have a feedback loop in the software that is not yet solved at this writing. They send us on a faq foxhunt for lack of a better description of 'try this' 'try that' bla bla bla. For my taste. This card just did a few things I did not find tolerable; different types of music/movies/youtube would change volume. I could hear a great sound in this card, while it turned out to be illusive to me. The Zonar was way better than onboard sound and is excellent for a modest upgrade. I am sure most user would find it perfectly enjoyable. I did use the software from Asus and since I have stereo 2.0 JBL studio monitors, I do not use the features available with surround. Music lovers will like the performance increase on a budjet.

Good, clean sound….

There are only a few half height or low profile sound cards available in 2023 and the Zonar SE is probably the better choice for value. Well made with sturdy brackets. Easy to install and recognised via Windows 11 23H2 immediately. My primary reason for purchasing this card is the optical connection making a clean noise free passage straight to my amplifier for streaming music. The card performs well but I did run into a minor issue. I would get a very small stutter occasionally. Not a deal breaker by any means just a small 1/2 a second stutter during a song at random times. However I did seem to solve the problem by uninstalling the Zonar software and leaving the work to Windows 11 itself. The stutter was no longer there, perfect audio! The software does not have a lot to offer in regards to EQing it merely gives you the option to choose bit rate and output which can all be done in Windows. It would be nice to see the software updated by Asus and maybe improved in regards to EQing but again the soundcard works fine without it and produces very clean audio via the optical output.

Should've pass on this one, returning

Should've been an upgrade to what came on-board with the B450 Plus gaming motherboard, but it wouldn't stop popping and skipping out long enough to find out. Windows 10. Single standard output. Waste of money.
