INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES Bestseller Stephen and Evie Colbert invite you to pull up a chair as they share their favorite recipes from family and friends and offer a glimpse of food and fun in their South Carolina home. Hopefully reading this book and cooking these recipes will feel like hanging out with us at home. We basically live in the kitchen anyway. Evie and Stephen Colbert, as Evie and Stephen explain it, Does This Taste Funny? It has its beginnings in the Covid lockdown. We were all stuck together and couldn’t go out, so we cooked. We had all three kids back under one roof for the first time in a long time, and we had dinner each night as a family. Cooking together has become a major source of entertainment. Now, Colbert’s invite us into their kitchen and around their dining room table. Sharing Stephen and Envies favorite recipes, as well as those of their family and friends, this book offers everything from Party Food (called party food because appetizers imply something to follow when we all know that, often, this is the only course), to Seafood, to Poultry and Meat (Evie and I have different relationships to meat. I like it. Evie can take it or leave it, and mostly she leaves it.), to Desserts (This is one of the largest sections of the book. Evie always reminds me that desserts are a great way to postpone clearing…

Fabulous!

We have tried several recipes: scalloped potatoes, bourbon chocolate pecan pie, crab cakes and whole roasted buttermilk chicken. All were delicious and we will be making them again. Can’t wait to try more. The stories are heartwarming and the pictures are mouthwatering. I will definitely be gifting this to friends at Christmas time. :-)

Very tasty

Whoa, the candied chilies, the popovers, the mango with the cornflake fried chicken, the brussel sprouts with hot honey, and the crab cakes are sooo tasty. I can't wait to try out some of these soups, too. I'm a terrible cook, but the recipes I tried listed above were easy to make.

Lovely, Authentic Southern cookbook

Having been born and raised in the upstate of South Carolina and spending my summers in the low country, I can honestly say this is the most all encompassing, authtic cookbook representing the dishes I grew up with. I bought the ebook when it dropped simply because it was Colbert and I love his humor. I wasn’t expecting a cookbook so well thought out with accurate, mouth watering southern dishes that I actually want to make. I have owned a fine dining restaurant and own hundreds of cookbooks. There is not one recipe in this book I won’t be trying (except maybe the Boston Butt. I don’t want to work that hard). I will be ordering the hard back.

Love the recipes

My cousin had an early copy so this weekend, we made a chicken dish and the popovers. I made the basil martini. Loved everything and just ordered my own copy of this book.

wow- soo good! Already marked 30 recipes to make

I had the pleasure of seeing an early copy of this beautiful book and have already made the popovers, the candied hot peppers, the cornflake chicken with mango sauce, the crab cakes, and the sticky toffee pudding! I can honestly say I would make every single one for company. I took the sticky toffee pudding to my Bookclub. The photos are gorgeous and the book is so unique in the way the dialog between members of the Colbert family introduce each recipe (or receipt as Evie likes to say). What a treasure to have in my stack of cookbooks.
