All the hits!

This is such a a great collection of some of NYT Cooking’s best hits. I’m forever printing out their recipes and discarding after making the dish, so it’s perfect to finally have them all in one place.

Love the simplicity!

I love these types of recipes! While the recipes are simple in ingredients and preparation, they pack so much flavor! Recipes types span lots of different cuisines and meal types, leaving something for everyone! I also really love the user tips that have been included – it’s fun to see just how flexible these recipes can be, being used as more of a template, which allows you to swap in different ingredients and use up the ingredients in your fridge. I can’t wait to cook everything in this book. Please note: Ten Speed Press provided me with a free copy of this book; the opinions are my own.

Fresh Inspiration for Weeknight Meals!

When I get a new cookbook, I always do a first pass, noting recipes I consider must-tries. This book had so many, I quickly realized I would be cooking through the entire book! This is an exceptional collection of recipes from a talented crew of developers, some of whom I was familiar with, and some not. The recipes are ideal for managing the time crunch of a weeknight when still craving something delicious for dinner. The recipes offer the precision and creativity the NY Times is known for, with the added bonus of being curated from their five star collection, with real-life reviews from home cooks. The blackened fish transported me back to a favorite from the 90s, but the new technique did not fill my kitchen with smoke! The gnocchi and tomatoes recipe has been on repeat since receiving this book, and became a quick family favorite. Ten Speed Press provided me with a free advance copy of this book, however, the opinions are my own. Every recipe I have made from this book has been successful, and doable in the time the recipe states. This is an ideal book for anyone looking for fresh inspiration for their weeknight meals, or for people who do not want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen to provide a tasty meal.

So many great ideas!

I love this cookbook. Sure, there are a lot of "easy meal..." cookbooks, but this one had great ideas and PLENTY of cuisines were represented, which I respect. Pictured is my attempt at the easy spaghetti dinner. I would have never considered to make my meat sauce this way, but I'm so happy to have learned from this book. Easy and Tasty Weeknight Dinners!

As a frequent user of the NY Times Cooking app, I was delighted to have the opportunity to test out this book of “100 fast, flavor packed meals.” It delivered. So far, we tested and enjoyed sheet pan shrimp with tomatoes, feta, and oregano, shrimp scampi with orzo (we substituted ditalini because that's what we had on hand and it worked well), and glazed tofu in green curry (here, we took some liberties and without green curry paste made our own paste with tomatillos!). What we liked most is that this is a cookbook that calls for things most cooks already have in their kitchen and pantry. The recipes are very easy to follow, do not require any flipping of pages so everything is in front of you while you cook. We also like that these are NYT cooking recipes, but that they're in a book. Cooking from a website is fine, but if you're someone who prefers a printed page (I know I'm one!), this is a great way to access great recipes while not having to use a screen. The photos are great and definitely illustrate what each dish should look like when it's done. My only quibble - I wish the page numbers were larger. We’re looking forward to having more easy weeknight from this cookbook. Disclaimer: Ten Speed Press provided me with a free copy of this book; the opinions are my own.

Quick, delicious dinners that please the whole fam

A lot of recipes promise delicious food with minimal time and effort and fail to deliver on something – they either take too long or the food is bland. This book, a collection of recipes from the New York Times Cooking section and its pro recipe developers, delivers on the promise. The book is organized well, with sections based on the featured ingredient (chicken, pasta, fish, etc.). There is also a handy decision-guide in the front of the book for when you’re not sure what you want to make. I had my kids help me choose what to make out of the book and we ended up in the pasta section – no surprise for kids who love all forms of noodles. We made three recipes so far and all were hits, even with my pickiest eater. First, we made pasta with andouille sausage, beans, and greens. The recipe was filling (thanks to the protein-packed sausage and beans) for everyone after a night of kids sports. I made some minor substitutions from the original recipe to work with what I had on hand (chard swapped for collards; chicken andouille because it was in the freezer) and everything worked well. Next, I made crispy gnocchi with burst tomatoes and mozzarella. Again, I had these ingredients on hand so this recipe worked well for a quick meal. The sauce was flavorful and the crispy gnocchi cooked up in minutes. This was a meal you never would have guessed too so little time. Last but not least, we tried the dumpling noodle soup. The richly flavored broth came together quickly, the frozen dumplings come out perfectly, and the abundance of green veggies help to make a delicious meal that led to the rarest-of-rare requests: “Can we PLEASE make this again?” I cannot offer a stronger recommendation than that! This book is a winner. I have already added so many Post-its to the book that the binding is straining (don’t worry, I’ll take some out – I respect my books!). For those who already have an NYT Cooking subscription like me, this is a good complement – particularly if you are more apt to use a cookbook stand than refresh a smartphone while working with ingredients. Ten Speed Press provided me with a free copy of this book; the opinions are my own.

Easy Recipes

Easy Weeknight Dinners is a mix of easy dinners for everyday. The book is divided to help you decide what to make in the following chapters: Truly Fifteen-Minute Recipes, Tastes like Pizza, I Only Cook on a Sheet Pan, Good for Freezing, Vegan Dinners, Hand-Held Dinners, Dinner Party Vibes, One Pot, Make it Spicy. I've bookmarked many recipes including the Garlicky Chicken, with Lemon-Anchovy Sauce, Sheet-Pan Gochujang Chicken and roasted vegetables, blistered broccoli pasta with walnuts, pecorino and mint, and pasta with andouille sausage beans and greens. I made the Grilled Za'atar Chicken with Garlic Yogurt and Cilantro. It was easy to make and flavorful. Overall this is a fun and easy book to pick up for quick meals. I think you'll find some repeat recipes to make again and again. Ten Speed Press provided me with a free copy of this book; the opinions are my own.

As advertises-good eats for weeknights made simple

I currently subscribe to the NYC Cooking app so many recipes in the book were familiar to me. However, while I do use my tablet to access saved recipes, I prefer a hard copy version of the recipe when cooking. Enter- “Easy Weeknight Dinners” from NYTCooking. The book has a simple and clean design, large black fonts on white pages, each recipe has a corresponding picture. The book is broken into sections based on the meal’s main ingredient (e.g., Chicken, Pasta, Rice, Fish, etc); and includes helpful sections like “Need Help Deciding?”, which outlines different categories of meals such as “Truly Fifteen Minute Recipes” and “Picky Kids Might Actually Eat This”. I sometimes struggle with a new cookbook when deciding what to make so was a useful quick reference guide. I have previously tried some of the recipes in the NYC Cooking app, however there were many that I had not tried in the book. “Sheet pan Broccoli and Salmon” and “Sheet Pan Shrimp, Tomatoes and Feta” and “Hot Dogs with Pico de Gallo” were great quick meals for the family (who would have thought adding homemade pico to a hotdog would have everyone saying it felt “more like a meal” than just a hot dog!). Highly recommend this book to anyone who struggles with ideas quick homemade weeknight meals, or anyone who likes the NYTCooking app and wants a copy of the recipes in print form.
