#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER OPRAHS BOOK CLUB PICK Born to an American myth and raised in the wilds of Graceland, Lisa Marie Presley tells her whole story for the first time in this raw, riveting, one-of-a-kind memoir faithfully completed by her daughter, Riley Keough. In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir. A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved. Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them. About getting dragged screaming out of the bathroom as she ran toward his body on the floor. About living in Los Angeles with her mother, getting sent to school after school, always kicked out, always in trouble. About her singular, lifelong relationship with Danny Keough, about being married to Michael Jackson, what they had in common. About motherhood. About deep addiction. About ever-present grief. Riley knew she had to fulfill her mother's wish to reveal these memories, incandescent and painful, to the world. To make…

Moving. Heartbreaking, Shocking...

"From Here to the Great Unknown" is incredibly moving, equally heartbreaking, and intensely shocking. The chosen format is perfect, as Riley's voice alternates before and after sections of Lisa Marie's thoughts throughout the chapters. Lisa Maria had a burning need to tell her story, but wavered on how to proceed. She asked Riley to help her finish—she died unexpectedly a month later. After months of grieving, Riley began listening to the tapes recorded in her mother's voice. She quickly realized what a gift it was to hear her mother's voice on these treasured recordings. This is an immersive reading experience I finished in one afternoon. The audiobook is narrated by Riley, who shares her thoughts, and Julie Roberts, who is the voice of Lisa Marie. You also hear snippets of Lisa's voice from the original recordings at the beginning of each chapter. The Kindle version also contains photos of Lisa Maria and family members from different periods of her life. "From Here to the Great Unknown" contains the highlights of Lisa Marie's story, and with Riley's memory and closeness to her mother, she fills in the gaps. What stands out to me is the love between Lisa and her children, which is expressed so eloquently by Riley. I just listened to the last chapter again, with Riley's eulogy to her mother, and I cried like I did the first time I heard it. Riley truly has a gift with words that shines through in her writing. I hope she doesn't stop here! 4.75⭐

Not what I expected.

I am an Elvis Presley fan since a kid as my mother loved Elvis and played his music so I grew up on Elvis. I was 12 when he died and remember exactly where I was when I heard the tragic news of his death. I was thinking that this would be a book with details of Lisa Marie Presley’s life growing up with her famous and adored dad, living in the Presley home and the relationships with both of her parents. However, it was only glimpses of a chaotic and what seemed like a sad life spent living at Graceland and growing up by, what sounded like, her own rules followed by a chaotic adult life, moving around from place to place, the men she married and the children she had. There is lots of profanity used by Lisa and mentions of her drug use and depression. She was rough around the edges and lived a troubled life. A lot of the books perspective was from Kiley. Surprisingly, Kiley seems like she has her adult life together. I thought Lisa would have had a better life than what she revealed but again, she was nine when her life changed with her dad’s passing and no one really seemed to be there for her when that happened and the years after to help her through such a difficult time of life and dealing with such grief at the age of nine and beyond. There are lots of years not talked about and her mother, Priscilla, wasn’t spoken of much at all. For sentimental reasons, I kinda wish I had not read it. They were such a beautiful family loved by millions with lives that all ended to soon and so tragically.

Book Review: From Here to the Great Unknown by Lis

From Here to the Great Unknown is a moving and deeply personal memoir co-authored by Lisa Marie Presley and her daughter, Riley Keough. What makes this book truly remarkable is its authenticity and real events told directly from the primary sources, offering readers an intimate and unfiltered look into the lives of two generations shaped by fame, love, loss, and resilience. One of the most compelling aspects of the memoir is its use of voice recordings from Lisa Marie herself. Hearing her words in her own voice creates a powerful emotional connection and brings her memories vividly to life. Riley Keough’s narrative weaves seamlessly alongside her mother’s, offering both perspective and reverence. She shares her own reflections while honoring Lisa’s voice, giving readers insight not only into their unique bond, but also into the complexity of growing up in the shadow of cultural icons. What I especially appreciated was how the memoir handled sensitive and tragic moments with care and dignity. It never felt exploitative; instead, it was tastefully written and mindful of the profound grief and public scrutiny both Lisa Marie and her father, Elvis Presley, endured. The story doesn't shy away from hardship, but it never loses sight of love, strength, and legacy. I would highly recommend From Here to the Great Unknown to all fans of Elvis Presley, as well as anyone who enjoys honest and heartfelt memoirs. It’s a beautifully told story of family, fame, and the enduring power of personal truth.

Loved it!!!

First off, I loved the different fonts and how they used them to tell Lisa Marie's story and Riley's story. I loved their separate stories within one extraordinary book. There are many facts told in this book that were very eye opening and very heart breaking about Lisa Marie and Riley. They both have lived extraordinary lives, along with extraordinary traumas. This story is proof that you can be famous and have it all and still not have it all. This story made me laugh, smile, and even cry. This book is enjoyable even for the Non Elvis or Lisa Marie fan.

From Here to the Great Unknown....

I was born in 1957 and became a lifelong Elvis fan when I was 8 years old. I feel like I watched Lisa Marie grow up but of course it was through the media point of view. Now, after reading her memoir, my heart is absolutely breaking for what she went through, it's no wonder she felt so "broken". I loved how open, honest and raw the book is and a huge thank you to Riley for finishing the book after her mother's untimely death. I remember how devastated I was when Elvis died and had the same feeling when Lisa Marie died. Having just finished reading the book, I can hear her words in my mind and hope with all my heart that she is reunited with her beloved father and son and has finally found peace. Excellent book that makes you realize Lisa Marie was definitely more than just "Elvis' daughter".

Excellent read

Great insight on Lisa Marie Presley’s life. Some of these incidents mentioned by Riley were published in past books on Elvis by his friends/girlfriends, but it being in this book confirmed if their stories were true and accurate. Lisa Marie led an unhappy life especially after her father died. I’m sure her mother may have been grieving his loss as well, but Priscilla is painted as a horrible mother and an even worse human being. Riley/Lisa said Priscilla gets her cold demeanor from her own mother and grandmother. And Priscilla’s side of the family treated Lisa like she was nothing special. She also said Vernon Presley was more of an authority figure. I find that sad as most grandparents think the world of their grandkids. Lisa spent a lot of time helping Elvis when he would fall over and couldn’t stand, her and her little friend had to hold him up. One incident another relative was helping Elvis up when Lisa came in the room. Elvis locked eyes with his kid and smiled at her right before he puked. No wonder she was always thinking he was going to die. It was obviously traumatic to see him like that. But Lisa Marie made it clear that Elvis did love her.

Lisa Marie Presley/Riley Keough

I read this book for curiosity but was blown away by the chaotic life she that and her children led. The writing was decent but Lisa’s words were in one font and her daughter, Riley were in another. There really wasn’t a whole lot of difference in the fonts which sometimes made me wonder who I was reading about. I really didn’t enjoy the book because her life sounded like it was never happy maybe except when she was with her Dad, Elvis. Even then, it was evident that he was used to getting his way and had a bad temper. If you enjoy reading the F word on at least every page, then I invite you to read this. I wish I hadn’t. I borrowed a copy of this book from my local public library and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Inspiring

Riley did a wonderful job on completing this book for her mother (Lisa). She loved her father so much and he loved her just as much and she passed on that love to her children and to get to know Lisa on the deep level is inspiring! The death of her son was so heartbreaking. This book is just everything!!
