HEMLOCK ISLAND by Kelley Armstrong Horror, thriller or literary fiction? This book tries to be all those things, but it didn’t work for me. Firstly, it’s rather contrived to have the people trapped on the island all hate each other. As each relationship issue/drama is revealed, the characters try to talk/resolve it, but then something “creepy” happens. Of course this allows main character, Laney, to wallow in her anxiety and guilt which was so frustrating. By the third half of the book I was annoyed at Laney. Why did she act like she didn’t know what was going on when she had a hand in it the whole time?! All those mysterious goings on during construction didn’t set off any alarms? Girl, what?! Then the end? Oy. Talk about predictable, unrealistic, and ridiculous! In short, this had so much potential, but the execution didn’t work for me. Rating: 3/5 ⭐️
