This amazing collaboration brings together two inspirational Black artists, NYT bestselling author Ashley Woodfolk and actress Lexi Underwood, for a story about the formative power of art as protest and its capacity to change the world. When Jordyn Jones transfers to Edgewood High, it's her opportunity to forget everything that happened at her old school. To forget what he and her friends did. To forget who he used to be. That was a different person, this is a fresh start. Now she's someone new, someone better. Except it's the very first day of school, and somehow everyone already seems to know who he is. But Jordyn soon finds a group of friends, and he even starts talking to Izaiah, a soccer star who shares her love of art. Life is good. That's until an anonymous podcast called Tomcat Tea begins revealing humiliating secrets about Edgewood students, ruining their reputations and in some cases their futures. Jordyn and her friends know they have to do something and this is Jordyn's chance to prove to herself that he's changed. Jordyn's plan to take down the podcast throws her into the spotlight, and as the momentum builds, so do the risks because Jordyn has a secret of her own, one that could ruin everything . . . and that a mysterious harasser online is threatening to expose. With riveting prose, New York Times bestselling author Ashley Woodfolk and acclaimed actress Lexi Underwood balance…

Great read, 4/5 stars.

I felt such empathy for our main character, Jordyn. She was starting at a new high school after being expelled from her prior school for actions that have made her pledge to be a better person, and to speak up when she sees injustice instead of standing by, afraid to draw attention to herself. She does change, as evidenced by her actions, but what will she do if people find out why she was expelled when an anonymous podcast starts spilling the secrets of the students who go to her new school? I liked that this book was so relatable to any teen who reads it. The problems the kids faced in the book are the same ones that affect kids in real life. I thought the story was told in a realistic way, and while the pacing was a bit off at times, I enjoyed reading it. In summary, I liked this book very much and highly recommend it. 4/5 stars. *** I would like to thank NetGalley, Scholastic Press, Ashley Woodfolk and Lexi Underwood for the opportunity to read and review Louder Than Words.
