#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER In her vulnerable, tender, and infinitely inspirational (Oprah Daily) memoir, the first Black woman to ever be appointed to the Supreme Court of the United States chronicles her extraordinary life story. A billowingly triumphant American tale. The New York Times Book Review (Editor's Choice) With this unflinching account, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson invites readers into her life and world, tracing her family's ascent from segregation to her confirmation on Americas highest court within the span of one generation. Named Ketanji Onyika, meaning Lovely One, based on a suggestion from her aunt, a Peace Corps worker stationed in West Africa, Justice Jackson learned from her educator parents to take pride in her heritage since birth. She describes her resolve as a young girl to honor this legacy and realize her dreams from hearing stories of her grandparents and parents breaking barriers in the segregated South, to honing her voice in high school as an oratory champion and student body president, to graduating magna cum laude from Harvard, where she performed in musical theater and improv and participated in pivotal student organizations. Here, Justice Jackson pulls back the curtain, marrying the public record of her life with what is less known. She reveals what…

Not a great or interesting read

I bought this at my local B&N. I was looking forward to it and thought it'd be an amazing read . Maybe, president Obama's "Audacity of Hope" set up very high expectations for me which is one of the most interesting and funniest books I've read to date but this book felt way way short. I do love to read memoirs of people I admire but this is one I wish she had gotten an interesting exciting writing to create on her behalf instead. Not worth the $25 I paid for it in my opinion.

Lovely Book

Excellent book, so well written and engaging. I love how transparent she was, especially the stories about her children. Kudos to hers parents, they are remarkable, as well as her in-laws.

Well written, honest look at her life so far

This is one of the best memoirs I have ever read, maybe one of the best books I've read. Ketanji Brown Jackson offers an in depth look at her life from her childhood through her appointment as a Supreme Court Justice. This well written book offers a balanced look at both her career trajectory and her personal life. She lays bare her ambitions, self doubts, triumphs and mistakes which gives the reader a very clear picture of who she is. I applaud the openness with which she shares the ups and downs of her life story. Highly recommended

Hardcopy and Audio-excellent read

I purchased the signed hardcopy of this memoir. I so enjoyed learning the background of our first African American female Supreme Court Justice. She narrates the audio herself; she has a soothing voice and I enjoyed listening to her tell her story and recount episodes of history during her an her family's lifetime. I thought the memoir was so compelling I purchased two more books as gifts. I plan to return and purchase four more books as gifts. Highly recommend to read, listen and gift to family and friends.

Horrible

I have to say this book was a major disappointment. For someone who claimed they accomplished so much on their life but has a victim mentality. Yikes, thank you for setting us black women back 100 years. Terrible book.

B&N Book Brandoned: Breaking Barriers

An autobiography that captures the story of our first African American, female Supreme Court Judge. Her name provides the title to a personal story for everyone to read and revel in. I love diving into biographies by everyone, as we can always find ways to connect with people different than ourselves. Lovely One is just such a book to sit back in a comfy chair and drift away into the life of Ketanji Brown Jackson
