Product details
Web ID: 20312259Tragic Reality TV
This fast-paced novel is a literal whirlwind when a storm ravages Ever After Island, the setting for a new love reality tv show. Five couples are chosen to compete for a grand cash prize. From the start, it is clear that the producers are disorganized and seem to be making decisions on the fly. There will be challenges, there will be love found and lost, and at the end someone gets a nice cash payout. A death occurs and the production team scatters with the first cast-off. From there the story turns bleak. What led to the death, how many more may die and as the storm creates it's own crises, who will make it to the end? Sleep with one eye open, and think twice about looking for love on reality tv. Thanks to Scout Press and Net Galley for the ARC. This was my honest review.

Island survival story
*3.5 stars rounded up. A survival story set on an island twenty hours southwest of Indonesia. Five couples have come to Ever After Island to compete in a new reality TV show competition to decide who is 'The Perfect Couple.' Unfortunately the island is hit by a hurricane shortly after the competition begins and survival becomes all too real. The main protagonist is Lyla, a scientist whose current research contract is not likely to be renewed. So when her aspiring-actor boyfriend Nico begs her to apply with him to be part of the cast of a new reality TV show, she reluctantly gives in. Nico sees it as his chance to launch his career to the big-time but Lyla figures she'll just give it two weeks before getting herself kicked off the island and she can get back to 'real life.' Neither could imagine how things will actually unfold. A good beach read to take on vacation--it's entertaining and suspenseful. I am not a reality TV show fan so that part didn't really interest me. It seems like an over-done topic but Ruth Ware does some exciting things with it that kept me turning pages. Sort of a cross between Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None and William Golding's Lord of the Flies. Many thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an arc of this new thriller via NetGalley. My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.

More Survivor than romance
The book's title is the name of a new TV reality show taking place on a private island with 5 preselected couples. Lyla is a scientist who comes to the island with actor Nico. She doesn't feel comfortable doing the show, with all the cameras and stage directions, and is even further upset when Nico is sent home the first night. An unexpected hurricane causes more trouble, even deaths, and forces the remaining group to band together to protect the food and fresh water. Although the reality show was supposed to be a romantic one, the entire scenario felt more like Survivor. Thanks to NetGalley, Gallery Books, and Gallery/Scout Press for providing an ARC.

I could not put this book down!
I could not put this book down! A bunch of wannabe stars go to a deserted island for a reality competition show and a huge storm cuts them off from the rest of the world. These virtual strangers have to figure out how to get a long and stay alive. This book was well thought out and each of the stranded participants has their own story. I would definitely put this on your TBR list for when it's released in May of this year.

Island Terror
Can you call a thriller set on a remote island in the Indian Ocean a closed-room thriller? I read this one on a long flight, so I was sharing the character’s feelings of being trapped! Lyla and Nico are the last contestants invited to join the latest reality TV production, One Perfect Couple. They are flown to Jakarta from London, and then a boat takes them to an island not quite open for full tourism. Nico is a wanna-be actor who thinks this experience will launch him fully into his career. Lyla is a virologist who is struggling to get funding for her scientific research. She somewhat reluctantly agrees to accompany him. The island is as beautiful as the pictures promised, and the production team is ready to launch the first challenges. After the contest, the first contestant is out, and the production team leaves with him via boat. It doesn’t take long until things go horribly wrong though. Overnight, a huge storm rages, doing serious damage to the island. The couples are stranded with limited food and water. They had to turn in all their technology, so they can’t even reach out for help. As one of the survivors takes out all the stops to be the winner, lives are at stake in this fast-paced thriller. While I’m not a huge fan of reality TV, I did enjoy the thrills and turns in this one. While not my favorite Ruth Ware, it definitely entertained me on the flight.

Fantastic!
Ruth Ware has written another pulsating thriller. To date, this is my favorite of hers and I highly recommend it if you enjoy the slow unwinding of an intense story. A new reality show is being filmed on a remote island in the Indian Ocean. Couples must compete in tasks where each week one person must go home and their other half must spend the night with another contestant. But before the show can really even begin, a massive storm blows through and wreaks havoc on the set and it now becomes about survival. With limited food, limited water, and no way to call for help, they must work together to survive, but not everybody will make it home. The descriptive nature of Ware’s writing makes the reader feel as though they are right there in the middle of the action. Though there were many characters, it was easy to keep track of who was who because each of them had their own voice and each was distinctly unique. For me, this is a 5-star read and I am grateful to NetGalley and Gallery Books for the ARC.
