Let me tell you... Men and Money... are not good for you... but never let them both come between a long term Sisterhood. This was a great read. I love the shout outs of the books and authors. Many that I have read or on my TBR list. I certainly would visit this Bookstore!

Not a feel-good story
"The Bookshop Sisterhood" sounded like it would be right up my alley, but honestly, I didn't enjoy it... In theory, the story is about four longtime friends who decide to open a bookshop together. They consider each other their "ride or dies." But the way they talk to each other most of the time was not comfortable to me at all. A lot of the book was spent calling each other out on their schtuff, while they each were facing life-changing situations. I found the bickering between them tiresome, and even at 80% of the way through the story was forcing myself to keep going. (Usually, that far into a book, you're on a downhill slide to the ending. But for this one, it was still a slog as characters were continually making bad choices that you knew weren't going to turn out well for them.) And there wasn't a single one of the characters I actually liked, except Toni (a little bit) and Edwin (the only upright male in the bunch!). Leslie is just nasty to people. Celeste is manipulative. And Yasmeen is a hot mess. And the bookshop that's supposed to bind them all together plays a very minor role in the story... Thank you to Michelle Lindo-Rice, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

Well Written But Full of Angst
had a hard time with this book. The story description didn't really prepare me for the true nature of the story. Yes, it's a story about four long time friends who are planning to open a bookstore together. But that is really just the backdrop against which the real stories take place. The book follows the stories of each of the individual women as they struggle with personal problems and family tragedy. The chapters flow from one character to the other, delving into the trials each of them are facing. Though they look to each other for support, they are unwilling to listen to advice they are seeking, often keeping secrets they fear sharing with even their closest friends. This story is full of angst. At times I wanted to reach in and a slap a character, encourage them to listen and get a clue. I can admit the story was well written and the changing point of views didn't detract from the continuity of the story. I just wish I had been prepared for the amount of anxiety and uncertainty threaded through the story

So Much Drama!!
This book had a lot going on and most of it was not about the bookshop. The 4 women who make up the sisterhood are long time friends who decide to open up a bookstore and then each of their lives falls apart in dramatic ways. Although the story kept you turning pages to see what would happen next, not all the women were likeable or treated each other well. It did not seem realistic that all of them would have such immense issues at the same time or that they would make the choices that they did to deal with their situations The ending of the book seemed rushed after so much time was taken delving into each of their lives past and present. I wanted to like each of the women more and root for them more but it was hard to do. I did like that there were so many book recommendations from other authors throughout the book. Thank you Netgalley for providing me with an ARC.
