The Light Eaters: How the Unseen World of Plant Intelligence Offers a New Understanding of Life on Earth by Zoë Schlanger
Product details
Web ID: 20312077Plant Intelligence Unveiled
As a gardener I thought I was sensitive to the needs of plants. What I learned in The Light Eaters is that I have underestimated their intelligence. As Zoe Schlanger points out, unlike animals, plants can't move to avoid danger or to secure nourishment; so, they have had to respond to their immediate environments in clever ways that blur the academic distinctions between smart animals and smart plants. So much fascinating research and so many new aspects of plant behavior to appreciate. This is one of the best books I've read in years.

So glad I ordered this from Barnes and Noble!
Incredible book which I found on Barnes and Noble website! Ms. Schlanger carefully and systematically explains and cites references to clearly show the remarkable --yes--intelligence of plants. And so much more. Sometimes while reading this book...I literally could not put it down. It provided wonderful insight and actually substantiated a personal belief I have held for over 40 years about a plant I have farmed here in tropical Hawaii. No doubt in my mind that my chosen life work of growing and researching the kava plant is as much due to the plant helping me as much as I help this sterile species of plant. Thanks to Barnes and Noble and thanks to Ms. Schlanger

Beautifully written
Recent discoveries in the plant world have revealed remarkable abilities like communication, memory, and shape-shifting camouflage. This book delves into the cutting-edge research and debates surrounding plant intelligence, highlighting their vital role in our ecosystem, and the ethical implications of their complex capabilities. Part autobiography, part philosophy, and part science, this book is beautifully and lovingly written. Though I was expecting a stronger focus on research, the book is informative and surprising. Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
