Like Adam Silvera's They Both Die at the End and Colleen Hoover's It Ends with Us, Before I Fall raises thought-provoking questions about love, death, and how one person's life can affect so many others. With this stunning debut novel, New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver emerged as one of today's foremost authors of young adult fiction. For popular high school senior Samantha Kingston, February 12—"Cupid Day"—should be one big party, a day of valentines and roses and the privileges that come with being at the top of the social pyramid. And it is…until she dies in a terrible accident that night. However, she still wakes up the next morning. In fact, Sam lives the last day of her life seven times, until she realizes that by making even the slightest changes, she may hold more power than she ever imagined. Before I Fall is now a major motion picture Zoey Deutch, Halston Sage, and Kian Lawley. Named to numerous state reading lists, the novel was also recognized as a Best Book of the Year by Amazon, Barnes & Noble, The Daily Beast, NPR, and Publishers Weekly.

Better Than Expected

I don't know why I never picked this book up when it was what everyone was talking about. It just never seemed interesting. However, I recently did pick this book up and boy was I surprised by how much I liked it. It does have the same concept as Groundhog Day and Happy Death Day and probably tons others, but I appreciate the newness this author brings into a classic plot point. I didn't much enjoy reading from a popular girl's perspective at first, yet it was interesting to see things from a point of you you've never seen before. Our main character grows from very unlikeable to likable. Her friends grow on you. I wish the book had more answers about what is going on between our main character and a bullied girl, but it doesn't haunt me at night. I did wish for a happy ending and in a way, it was, but in a way, it was not. This book surprised me and I am happy to add it to my shelf.

I appreciated this book

Sam has it all. Being one of the popular girls in school means you have the best friends, you go to the most insane parties, you have the hottest boyfriend, and just about everything. So when the anticipated Cupid Day comes where the person with the most roses received determines your status, apparently for Sam, this is her last day. And as she repeats the day over and over again, she discovers the things that are really important. I decided to pick up and listen to the audiobook on this one because I did like the movie. I thought it was interesting. I never even thought much of the story. I know that the book is a bestseller and it's really famous, but I have no idea what the book is about. So I went to see the movie without knowing what it was and I was pleasantly surprised of the story. One reason I think the book just blew up was because of the character and her perspective. Usually, stories are about that secluded, unpopular kid. And a lot of people resonate and understand that. But Sam, being a beautiful and popular girl, was a mystery not a lot of people experienced. So following Sam was like seeing the life of a popular kid. And the way the author wrote her perspective was very good to the point that the reader find relatable even though they never became this popular kid. It was definitely interesting for me anyway. The Groundhog Day element was pretty done well too. I really liked the movie but the book is very chunky and I was sure not all of it was in the movie. The stories that happened to Sam in different days was very good and I thought it covered everything and connected all of them together. There were some parts where I thought was so unfair, which made me experience the feels. It was good but also frustrating. Like I said, the execution of the book was well done. As for characters, all of them was very interesting but it definitely felt more about Sam and Lacey. Which is understandable cause the plot do revolve around them but I just wish more of their friends were included. This was definitely such a good book, and I really did appreciate it.
