Damaged shoes

I probably won't order from them again. I ordered a pair of birkenstocks for a gift,I got them and they were damaged with glue or something on the strap. I contacted Macy's to see if they would do an exchange,the girl said yes then at the end of the conversation said they were out of stock but I could return them for a refund. Really? You guys send me damaged shoes that should've neen caught and not sent in the first place but clearly your quality control doesn't do their job or they just don't care,tell me I can do an exchange without making sure tbe shoes were available first. My
