Black Diamond - Alpine Carbon Cork Trekking Poles

I’ve tried other brands, broke and bent other poles. You cannot beat the Black Diamond flick-locks. Lightweight, great for backcountry hunting and hiking with a heavy pack, especially on declines, and the best trekking pole grip I’ve ever felt. I recommend these poles often. I sometimes leave the tripod at home and rest my binoculars one of these BD poles from a sitting position since the length/height is so quick to adjust.

Great poles until one broke

I have used these poles for hiking, backpacking and snowshoeing about 50 days in 5 years. They are light, comfortable and very stable. I was very happy with them until one broke recently (without warning) while descending a trail. I had planted the pole while walking in loose dirt and it was not under heavy stress at the time. Hopefully I can get a replacement part as these were spendy poles and they should have a lot more life in them.

Great Poles but those clips...

Bought those poles maybe a year ago, used them twice then they went into storage as I was only doing daytrips at the time where I don't usually use poles. The good: The grips are amazingly comfortable, the poles themselves are very stiff, light, sturdy and lock very securely. The bad: THE CLIPS! Only one of the poles will lock in completely collapsed position as the clip on the lower segment of the other pole won't hold when it's completely pushed in. Workaround is to store the pole with partially extended lower segment. As for so many others the plastic covers of two of the clips broke off the first and second time the poles were used respectively. This leaves the poles usable but makes adjusting length a painful and bothersome affair. In conclusion: Amazing poles that are made "only" average by disappointing designflaws on the clips. Will continue using them, but would only recommend them to a friend if the clip design is fixed.

The best

I have owned these poles for over 5 years now, taking them on tough trips up California’s 14ers and the cascades. Snow shoeing, at skiing, approaches for big rock climbs with heavy haul bags. These are light and durable and if a tip breaks, replace it! I would definitely buy these again and recommend them to all my friends or anyone looking for a good pair of poles

Great poles until they fall apart

Bought in May 2019, lightly used and worked great for the first 100 miles, but the cork grips began to crumble. Then around mile 125 this past week one of the tips snapped. The grips are still plenty usable, but the tip is pretty much a nail in the coffin. The worst part is I just started on a longterm hiking trip out of the country, so returning them to the retailer for replacement isn't an option. I honestly loved them at first, too bad they aren't built to last, especially at this price point.

Broken flick lock after using for 1 day

Everything about these poles seems great - they’re stable, relatively light weight, cork grip, BUT I used the poles for a single day and already one of the plastic flick locks is broken. Incredibly poor design to be using such a fragile material on those. Now it is more difficult to lock / unlock that pole without the plastic cover and if this one already broke on day one, it’s likely inevitable for the others to break sooner or later.

broken flick lock clip for adjusting

I received these as a gift for Christmas, and the first time I used them the plastic covering over the clip to adjust the height broke off. I sent them back for a replacement, and after only two more uses, the plastic covering has yet again broken off. As other reviewers have said, it makes changing the height very difficult without the plastic covering (hurts your fingers). Disappointed with this design, otherwise, poles are lightweight and helpful.
