Interesting, informative and funny at times. A little longer than it needs to be, but a must read for Bruce fans.

Interesting and informative
Wow, just wow. I am a Jersey girl and grew up with The Boss, Bruce Springsteen, as a larger-than-life, home grown musician. I've always enjoyed his music and never really thought about his humble beginnings and what it took him to make it in the music industry; especially during the turbulent 1960's and early 1970's. I wasn't sure what I was going to learn about this Rock-n-Roll icon; I was pleasantly surprised to find that his musings and thoughts in this book are an extension or precursor to his music. It's kind of like "what you see is what you get"; with a few well hidden demons in his life. Even if you are not a Springsteen music fan; this book speaks to the soul of the reader, one-on-one. "no quarter given". Even if you don't believe in his political stands; you come to admire where his heart and soul are coming from. At times deeply introspective and moving and other times humorous. The reader gets to "meet" the man behind the rock legend; with all his faults and self-deprecating humor for all to see. Bravo!

Who Knew "The Boss" Was Funny?
Bruce Springsteen is a rock god, a legend in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. He and his friends, the E Street Band, have made memorable music together. Who knew that Mr. Springsteen could write an interesting book as well as great songs? After reading his memoir - named after my favorite song of his - I now know that he is a funny, charming, self-deprecating writer as well. As with most artists, Mr. Springsteen had/has his demons. He dealt at length in his memoir w/ his running from his demons in all the usual ways: late nights, alcohol, high-speed transportation, and lots of women. Mr. Springsteen's particular demons were growing up w/ a cold, undemonstrative, often-mentally-ill father, and his own struggles w/ his depression. He gives his wife and back-up singer, Patti Scialfa, massive credit for helping to save him from himself w/ her long-lasting love - and patience. I love "the Boss'" music, and really enjoyed his memoir. I rounded down to four stars b/c, in spots, he enjoyed the sound of his own voice in his writing a bit too much by being unnecessarily wordy and extremely navel-gazing.
