White fabric is see through

My husband is 6’ 2”, 180lbs, and fit, he doesn’t work out all the time but he walks a lot so his muscles are lean and long. He wears a regular medium shirt, and his pants are a 32” waist. I bought the white shirt in a 16.5 34/35, I meant to buy it in the 32/33 arm length because it’s French cuff and I didn’t want it looking sloppy, but I made a mistake and bought it in the 34/45. Funny enough, the 34/35 length was perfect in the arms but regardless, the body is just massive. It’s so big on him! He wears a dress shirt and pants ever day for work, literally every day, and I thought I’d get him something different, a French cuff shirt, to branch out and have some variety in his work wardrobe but this shirt missed the mark so bad, why is it sooooo big in the waist, not to mention it’s entirely see through, my husband wears an undershirt under all his work shirts and you could see the outline of the undershirt completely. This shirt is for someone I guess, just not my husband.
