Pretty but not washable

I was so excited to get these salt and pepper shaker set. One of the shakers were chipped. It's written that they are dishwasher safe but when I tried washing them with my hand the one which was chipped changed colour and became a little dusky. I immediately washed the pitcher I bought along with them and it looks fine. I will try to exchange them as I find them very pretty but if this happens the next time,they are gone.
