Fractured Fairy Tale

Book Three continues the fractured fairy tale. I like how the new character we're introduced to in one book becomes an important part of the next book. Very impressive how Meyer weaves several fairy tales to create one cohesive plot.

A dissapointing sequel

This dragged on and on and on with scenes and whole chapters that added nothing, and predicable plot twists to boot. In fact, one third of this book could have easily been shredded and it would have only benefitted the story. The heroine of the second book, a strong-willed and outspoken character, is reduced to a damsel in distress and has zero relevance for the rest of the book other than to induce angst, and to boot, her love interest is also rendered pretty much pointless throughout most of the story. More infuriation is it that all that all of the abovementioned could have been avoided had the characters had the brains to think of a code word. The feeling when you are stuck watching a bad movie because you need to see what it ends, that is what made me continue reading. That, and because I want to see happens to the three characters and one or two ships I am invested in. There were but a handful of chapters or singular moments that I could appreciate but those were less than 10% of the whole book and not enough to make this above the one-star rating. I’d give one-and-a-half if I could.

Clever!!!

I write this in every review for this series, but these books are just so clever! Meyer does such a good job of keeping the fairy tales we know and love intact, while also making them exciting and based in sci fi. The way she has interwoven multiple fairy tales into one adventure in the future is also just so brilliant!
