Not what I expected
This is a sci-fi thriller that definitely takes you on a roller coaster. There were a lot of intense scenes and I found myself a few times reading with the book really close to my face😅 the reason I am giving this a three star though is because for me personally I didn’t like how the author threw in that there were a 100+ Jasons by the end. All 100 of these Jason’s willing to hunt/kill each other for the one version of Daniela!? Like okay extreme to have that much pining for just one person is crazy. And at the end I just felt confused because who is to even say the one Jason who we followed was really the OG out of all of them? And I hate how we don’t even know what happened to Amanda! Like I completely agree why she could no longer follow him but just sucks her stories just drops with no resolve if she makes it or not. And after all that Jason and his family don’t even get to stay in their world and what do all the other 100+ Jason’s supposed to do??? I think things got really complicated and was hurried at the end and for me a lot of lose ends and unanswered questions

Well-Balanced Sci and Fi
If you're into mind-bendy sci-fi thrillers that are heavy on the science yet easy to read and understand, have a unique story idea, and a lot of heart to boot, I've got news for you - this book has it all! Blake Crouch is a name I'm seeing more and more lately and after reading this book, I completely understand why. This book is as fast paced as it is willing to take in the tender moments. Jason Dessen is a man with a family he loves and a career he puts up with after giving up his dreams for his family. One night he is kidnapped and injected with something that puts him out cold. When he comes to, his life isn't as he remembered it. He isn't married. He doesn't have a son. He's a brilliant scientist that never gave up on his dreams. From there, this book is a page-turning masterclass in telling a well-balanced science fiction story, incorporating lots of science, without getting too bogged down in the details. This is a story about a character in a crazy situation. It has heart. It has heartbreak. It does not have long, drawn-out explanations of science to make the story seem plausible. Which is nice. It has just enough explanation for the reader to get on board and enjoy the ride. I really want to stay out of spoiler territory so I'll conclude by saying that while this is science fiction, it is ultimately a story about a man trying to get back to his family. It's a journey to find home. Maybe not something we can all relate to, but kind an interesting thought experiment. This is a 5 out of 5 star read. And try not to watch the trailer for the AppleTV+ show before you read this - it spoils the plot pretty quickly. But I think I'll have to check out that show; it looks really good!

Great Sci-Fi read
Wow. A twisted tale of how far someone will go to find their perfect life. It's "The Midnight Library" on steroids. Full of action, suspense, drama, and surprises; I was hooked from the very beginning.

Finally some truly great sci-fi
I’m not a fan of fantasy sci-fi. Sorry StarWars, Dune, etc. fans. I love true speculative fiction that takes real science and projects an outcome. Crouch is up there with Asimov and Clarke. A truly great work!

All Thrill No Chill
Books main concept opens itself up for a lot of philosophizing and exploration, yet the matter is merely glanced at, before proceeding back to being a C action movie. Entertaining and quick paced, but disappointing. Main character, Jason, is supposed to be a genius, yet regularly is written as a caricature of a knuckle dragging brute. Foes are written similar to a fanfiction wish fulfillment antagonist with moments so stupid I wanted to just retire the book. Allies and friends are as poorly written as a throwaway love interest from a movie from the 80s or 90s. If you already own Dark Matter, it is something nice to tide you over, otherwise, easy skip.

Definitely recommend
I’m not really into Syfy. But this book was really good had me hooked from the first chapter. It started to slow down a little bit in the middle, but once I push past was worth the read.

Sci-fi Page Turner
One of the best books I’ve read in a long time about time travel and philosophy TOGETHER. The plot, the characters, the science behind it all was intriguing and worth the read
