Great Gift
Nice book, good quality and felt like a different version that made a great gift for a book and film lover.

The classic Vampire novel which I read oh so many years ago. Probably read it first while in high school. Bram Stoker was not the first person to write about vampires, I believe that was 'Vampyre' by John Polidori; but the novel Dracula really put the vampire into focus for all that followed. It's a fascinating book written in 1897. Decided to re-read Dracula because I recently bought what is supposed to be the sequel to it, 'Dracula the Un-Dead' by Dacre Stoker who is the great grandnephew of Bram Stoker. Supposed to be based on handwritten notes and such that the author left to the family. Sounds interesting at the least.

Great for gifting!
I bought this as a Christmas gift for someone that loves the older classic scary movies and loves all books. They loved it, and the cover was super nice! It made a great addition to their library.

First things first, the cover is gorgeous. Although this is one of my favorite classics, I feel like the story moved incredibly slowly and could become boring over time. However, this book makes up for it by including incredible imagery that makes you feel as if you’re right there with Dracula. The way it’s written makes the book super enjoyable, featuring journal entries and newspaper clippings. This was a really fun and interesting read! I just wish it was a little shorter.

Not Enough Of The Title Character?
I suppose I am spoiled by a lot of the renditions and retellings of the famous character "Dracula" that have come thereafter... but I'm really disappointed in the original story. Dracula is barely in it, which I guess is why he's so scary or threatening or something. I think I'll stick to other versions.

Not My Favorite Classic...
Genre: Classic Rating: ⭐⭐ I mentioned in my review of Oliver Twist that classics are either a hit or a miss for me, and if Oliver Twist was a hit, Dracula by Bram Stoker was a miss. I was interested in reading the book because I wanted to see where our modern conceptions of vampires came from, and that aspect of the novel was definitely interesting. That being said, that was just about the only part of the book that I enjoyed. The pace was mind-numbingly slow, and the plot was relatively uneventful. Stoker could have gone in so many interesting directions since he wrote it as an epistolary novel, but instead he had endless pages of droning on about unimportant details. Similarly, I didn’t enjoy the fact that so many of Dracula’s characteristics and behaviors were not explained. Much of the novel was very ambiguous, to the point of causing boredom. As a whole, while Dracula wasn’t quite as torturous as The Catcher in the Rye, it certainly didn’t impress me.

Why isn’t this on your bookshelf?
This a fun way to have a Dracula classic. The red cover with black detailing and black book edge — really ads to the legendary darkness this story brings.
