Dream Town by David Baldacci
Private investigator and World War II veteran Aloysius Archer heads to Los Angeles, the city where dreams are made and shattered, and is ensnared in a lethal case in this latest thriller in #1 New York Times bestselling author David Baldacci's Nero Award-winning series. It's the eve of 1953, and Aloysius Archer is in Los Angeles to ring in the New Year with an old friend, aspiring actress Liberty Callahan, when their evening is interrupted by an acquaintance of Callahan's- Eleanor Lamb, a screenwriter in dire straits. After a series of increasingly chilling events, mysterious phone calls, the same blue car loitering outside her house, and a bloody knife left in her sink, Eleanor fears that her life is in danger, and she wants to hire Archer to look into the matter. Archer suspects that Eleanor knows more than she's saying, but before he can officially take on her case, a dead body turns up inside of Eleanor's home and Eleanor herself disappears. Missing client or not, Archer is dead set on finding both the murderer and Eleanor. With the help of Callahan and his partner Willie Dash, he launches an investigation that will take him from mob-ridden Las Vegas to the glamorous world of Hollywood to the darkest corners of Los Angeles, a city in which beautiful faces are attached to cutthroat schemers, where the cops can be more corrupt than the criminals.

Another Baldacci best seller
Dream Town By David Baldacci Aloysius Archer, PI and hero of two previous books, is once again the main character in this book. Here, Archer has come to Los Angeles to spend New Year's Eve 1953 with Liberty Callahan, aspiring actress and old friend from an earlier work. As they celebrate, their dinner is interrupted by a screen writer acquaintance of Liberty's, Eleanor Lamb. On learning Archer is a detective, Eleanor asks for help because she thinks her life is in danger. From here on, the story takes on all the twists and turns of a typical Baldacci novel. The cast of characters grows quickly, involving a Chinatown bar, the Jade Lion, which is a cover for all kinds of illegal activity; various actors, producers, and screen writers who have ties to the Jade Lion; gangsters from Las Vegas who also have ties to the Hollywood crowd and the Jade Lion; and of course the dead bodies. Also included are Archer's boss, Willie Dash, and various other PIs who are willing to help out when the going gets rough. Baldacci has written yet another romp through the glamorous and the seedy side of life. He hooks you in and keeps you there right until the end. My only issue here is the numerous passages concerning what the characters were wearing every step of the way. The book would not have suffered with some judicious paring of these passages.

She is then called out to an abandoned ranch where bones have been found and they are trying to find the rest of the bodies. Eve and Duncan have been told to leave for now and a new search will begin in the morning. Then Eve and Duncan are called in to investigate who killed reality superstar Kitty Winslow which once again puts Eve into the spotlight. Find out if Eve and Duncan can solve Kitty Winslow’s murder, and will they find the rest of the bodies in the desert?
