ZZZZZZZZZZ!
This book is not as good as I thought it would be. I have read 4 or 5 of Kristins books and this one is too lengthy and boring. I will finish it but not sure if I will purchase more.

FIREFLY LANE by Kristin Hannah This is the first book I’ve read by Kristin Hannah and I have not watched the show. I admit I’m too much of a cynic to get into a book like this. That said, I’m not completely devoid of feelings. In fact, Kate Mularkey and Tully Hart’s relationship ran the gamut of emotions for me. I went back and forth between hating both characters to feeling exasperated and annoyed by their poor communication skills and lack of personal or professional boundaries. Tully was an awful, selfish, narcissistic character. Her ambition and talent is great and all, but treating your supposed best friend like crap, railroading her life, interfering with her parenting and throwing money at her/her kid/your problems is not something a friend would do. Kate was a whiny, spineless pushover. There’s only so much “forgiving” a person can do for the sake of being a good friend. Yes it’s difficult asking for help, but don’t be a martyr. They had all the means to hire help and not many families do! A spa day isn’t going to solve this mess. I did like this enough to read the last third of it in about four hours because I couldn’t put it down. However, the numerous pop culture references, the Lifetime/Hallmark channel cliches and stereotypes brought it down a few notches. If you’re old enough to remember the film Beaches, I recommend watching that instead of reading this book. Perhaps the show is better? I’ll never know. Rating: 3/5 ⭐️

Fireflies remind us that it's the small, simple th
Complex ideas are woven into a riveting read about the importance of self-confidence. The author details the personalities of two lifelong best friends, Katie and Tully. Katie, a caring woman with cancer, loves her family and dedicates her life to her three children and loving husband. Slowly, though, readers come to understand that the word 'dedicated' can easily be replaced by the word 'sacrificed.' Despite being raised by two loving parents in a supportive household, it is Katie who becomes chronically co-dependent and not her best friend, Tully, the abandoned child of a compulsive drug addict. It seems that Katie's chronic lack of self-confidence ushers in her demise. No matter how many times her husband reassures her of his love, Katie suffers an aching kernel of acidic doubt, uncertainty that causes decades of unresolved distress. On the other hand, Tully, Katie's unstoppable best friend, has a public persona and the bravado that takes her to TV stardom. Yet, Tully appears to be allergic to real intimacy. Both women want what the other has, one a sparkling career and the other a loving family. The author masterfully turns our attention to the future through Marah, Katie's daughter, who "surrounded by dreamers' may be the one to weave a new design that marries family love, self-love and personal accomplishment in ways that would make her mother and aunt proud! Yawn....
This was my second book by Kristin Hannah. I LOVED The Nightingale, so I thought I'd love this one too. I was wrong. First of all, there were too many insignificant details about the times--music, TV programs, fashion, hairstyles, etc., and a lot of them weren't even accurate (e.g. "CorningWare dishes"--did she mean "Corelle"?). I guess these details were all meant to better describe the times, but I thought it was overkill. Second, I kept waiting for something--anything--to happen, but it never did. I really wanted to like this book, and I made a valiant effort, but I finally gave up after 122 pages.

Takes your breath away
Beautiful characters, good detail but not overwhelming. The ending was more impactful than I ever could have thought possible. The character and relationship growth between Tully and Katie is beautiful. It will remind everyone of their first meaning friendship that went beyond passing notes and sleepovers. If you liked the Netflix series, you'll love the book.

DON'T BOTHER
SPOILER AHEAD. This is one of the worst books I have ever read, and it even has mistakes such as, "pouring over," rather than "poring over" fashion magazines. The main character is a complete martyr, and the subordinate (in my view) character is a selfish airhead. I couldn't even really picture anything like this plot actually happening. Complete unmitigated drivel. I bought it because I so loved The Great Alone by the same author. I guess she learned how to write as she went along. This book goes right into the Take One Leave One Book box if I ever finish it. It is only getting worse toward the end. Imagine giving a person ON HER DEATHBED a JOURNAL to write in after you have just found out that the cancer is eating her brain. Suddenly the poor, sick martyr perks up and is able to write a journal, leave her deathbed, and go home for more sappy time with her family and friend (singular).
