Chain Missing

I was looking forward to gifting this to my son, but when it arrived it was missing the chain. I was confused for a moment because some crosses do not come with a chain but I went to the store and said yes it should have a chain. Then they just returned my money. I asked if I could get the chain replaced and they said just to buy a new one and hopefully it would have a chain. What kind of answer is that? I know that when a chain is included they are not always the best chains but to not have one was just weird. The cross it self was very nice and would have been a great choice for a young man or woman. The one I bought was white gold. it felt solid and worth my purchase,except there was no chain. Better luck next time.
