Book Review: Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen From the very moment I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. Flipped, by Wendelin Van Draanen, explores the themes of love and determination. The author conveys this by telling us how Juli has been head over heels for Bryce ever since she first laid eyes on him when he moved in across the street. Bryce has always thought of Juli Baker, the nightmare nuisance, the know it all neighbor, and an unflagging girl who just wouldn't leave him alone. After Juli takes Bryce off of this imaginary pedestal she has had for the past seven years, she realizes he might not be such an amazing person she thought he was. The theme of love is shown when Bryce notices this, he starts to get a weird feeling for Juli. He couldn't ever stop thinking of her. Was it her dazzling eyes, her sweet smile that could warm a room where no candles are lit, or is it the way her long brown hair lays so perfectly on her shoulders? He didn’t have a clue. It seems as though, once Juli was losing feelings for him, that's when he started falling in love. Juli Baker is a free spirited young girl who dances to the beat of her own drum, and could care less of what people thought of her. Bryce Loski on the other hand, seemed shimmery and cool on the outside, but on the inside, he was a coward of a boy who didn’t know how to stand up for what he believes in, and is easily influenced by what others might think of him if he thinks otherwise. These characters are very different. This is why they are so attracted to each other. The theme of determination is introduced when she perseveres through her crush on Bryce, and focuses on other things. Even though she won’t admit it, she is still in love with him, and is stronger than she was before and is destined to thrive. I will most remember the way Bryce talked about Juli. He described her in such a way that really moved me. He talked about her like she was an angel that had fallen from the sky, then planted herself across the street. I was so compelled by this, which was probably one of my favorite parts of this book. Readers can look forward to an exciting book that will make you feel like you are right there, watching this all unfold right before your eyes. One other thing readers can look forward to, is the great knowledge that is in this book. This novel taught me not to judge someone if I do not know them, or what they are currently going through. This novel is a breathtaking work of art that is completely absorbing, and heartfelt. I can happily say this is one of my favorite books that I have ever read.

Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen
Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen was the cutest book I ever read. The book is about a girl named Julianna who fell in love with the guy called Bryce the day he and his family moved in. She liked him from second grade to eighth grade, but Bryce didn’t feel the same way about Juli. He found Julianna very annoying and weird. Bryce did several things that hurt Juli. But things started to change in the middle of the book. Everything flipped, their feelings flipped, Bryce liked Juli and she started to hate Bryce, because he was a coward, liar, and very manipulative. The story is told in two perspectives, Julianna’s and Bryce's. It's so beautifully written, it made me tear up, especially when Juli found out Bryce was throwing away her eggs for two years. This is one of my all time favorite books; at times it gets very boring and long, but you won’t regret it when you reach the end. The whole book feels like a rollercoaster, you start off with Juli and all her emotions feel like you are going the roller coaster and when Bryce starts liking Juli it feels like the roller coaster is going in circles at super speed. I didn’t enjoy how the plot of the book was throughout a whole year, typically I enjoy when books are focusing on just a small time period. I was also unsatisfied with the ending, it seemed rushed and unfinished. The book felt lengthy and stretched out at times, which made it hard to read. That all changed once everything flipped between Juli and Bryce, once everything changed I couldn’t stop reading. This book will definitely make you cry, laugh, and cringe. Even though the first few chapters of the book are hard to get through, the ending makes up for all of it. Overall, I would recommend this book to basically anyone. It is good for all readers and the book is filled with different kinds of genres, including, romance, comedy, etc. This book is wonderful and has a great plot, it is also very well written. This book seemed like one of those books where you just end up predicting what's going to happen, and honestly maybe it is but there was just so much going for it. The book is not just some petty immature book, it's a novel that has so many messages and when you look at the deeper means of it all, it really is worth your time.
