Stepping far afield from his medical studies, Victor Frankenstein brings to life a human form he has fashioned from scavenged body parts. Horrified by his achievement, he turns his back on his creation, only to learn the danger of such neglect. Written when Mary Shelley was only 20 years old, Frankenstein has been hailed as both a landmark of Gothic horror fiction and the first modern science fiction story.

Just finished reading

I just finished reading no longer than a minute ago. Honestly wow, that’s all I can say. This book is so amazingly written that I think everyone should read this at least once in their lifetime. I enjoyed this book so much. One thing to note is that a good chunk of this book is just descriptions of nature. Although beautiful, it makes the story a little slow.

interesting story

Although frankenstein is a very famous book, it is a very slow paced story. It spends a lot of time on uneccesary details instead of focusing on the main plot. disegarding the slow pace, the main plot was pretty interesting. Overall, I believe Frankenstein did deserve to be a New York Times est seller

Beautiful Edition

“Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley truly deserves its reputation as a defining piece of gothic horror. The story is steeped in suspense and dread for what Frankenstein has created, and it is this foreboding rather than descriptions of the monster that give the greatest sense of horror in the book. The themes of creation, nature, and familial love, as well as the monster’s eloquence, add depth to the novel that is not often portrayed in retellings. For me, these themes and morals make an even more lasting impression than the horror, and place it among my favorite classic novels. I would highly recommend this edition, the cover is simple but conveys the perfect gothic horror for the story, and the preface is well written with a good history on Mary Shelley’s life.

An Easy Classic

I read this book for school, so that’s probably why I gave it 3 stars. If I would’ve read it for my own fun, it probably would’ve gotten 4 stars. That being said, this book had good and bad qualities. The bad being that a lot of the chapters were boring, and a lot of the characters were even more boring. However, I think it is really cool that this was the first Science Fiction book that created an entire genre of books and movies that lots of people love today. Also, the connection to Paradise Lost and biblical allusions is very well done in this novel. My only other complaint is that, considering the fact that the author was a woman, the women in this book were really lack luster. They lacked any spunk or drive that other female writers of the time, such as Jane Austen or the Brontë’s, added to their female characters. However, I am still glad I read this classic that is so different from modern versions of Frankenstein.

Good book Horrible packaging

The book itself is wonderfully designed but it is runed by Barnes & Nobles horrible adhesives. The bar code sticker and sale sticker are both too strong and if attempted to be removed will ruin the book as the cover has no strength. Keeping them on will leave nothing but an Eyesore and trying to use any agents such as rubbing alcohol will ruin the cheaply painted on cover. Get your act together Barnes & Noble, purchases for these type of collectors editions are supposed to be for looks, not terribly made book covers.

This typo is bothering me for no reason

Very good obviously (It's Frankenstein), but there's this type on page 65 in chapter 7 of volume 1, saying "you presence" instead of "your presence". It's a very tiny thing and not really an issue but it just sticks with me and I need to vent somewhere.
