A #1 New York Times bestseller! From #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestseller Cassandra Clare comes an exciting short story collection that follows Jem Carstairs as he travels through the many Shadow Markets around the world. Ghosts of the Shadow Market is set in the world of the Shadowhunters. The Shadow Market is a meeting point for faeries, werewolves, warlocks, and vampires. There, the Downworlders buy and sell magical objects, make dark bargains, and whisper secrets they do not want the Shadowhunters to know. Through two centuries, however, there has been a frequent visitor to the Shadow Market from the very heart of the Shadowhunters' world. Jem Carstairs is searching through the Shadow Market, in many different cities over long years, for a relic from his past. Follow Jem and see- against the backdrop of the Shadow Market's dark dealings and spectacle- Anna Lightwood's doomed romance, Matthew Fairchild's great sin, and Tessa Gray as she is plunged into a world war. Valentine Morgenstern buys a soul at the Market and a young Jace Wayland's soul finds safe harbor. In the Market is hidden a lost heir and a beloved ghost, and no one can save you once you have traded away your heart. Not even Jem.

Amazing Stories and Character Development

*Spoilers for the Shadowhunter Chronicles including The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices, Tales of the Shadowhunter Academy, and Ghosts of the Shadow Market* In the third novella bind up in the Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, we follow Brother Zachariah throughout countless visits to the Shadow Market over the span of a century. In this thrilling journey we get to see countless old favorites and many new faces tangled through Brother Zachariah’s eyes. However, what truly makes this book stand out is Jem Carstairs’ perspective on life, love, and loss. In this bind up we follow Jem throughout the century after he becomes Brother Zachariah to where he is following the events of QoAaD. To this point, we have only heard Jem’s voice and thoughts through the eyes of another, but this book finally gives us the truest sense of one of our favorite protagonists in the Shadowhunter world. For anyone who has read Clare’s books, you know the difference between the novella bind ups and the main series. Each chapter is an individual story that is connected by the main character that it follows. As with all the novellas bind ups, I think that the stringent stories are the last 2 to 3 in the bind up. Overall, the character development in this novel was beyond poetic and the strongest development arc of all the novella. This book tackles a much deeper and more complicated internal turmoil than any of Clare’s novels, and she executed this emotional void and need to remember so well while keeping true to the individual stories. I want to go into my individual thoughts on each story following this, but I want to cover my overall thoughts first. Overall, I loved this book, which isn’t surprising because Clare has developed a cast of character and plot that can’t be compared to anything else in the world. For anyone who has read Clare’s books over the span of a few years, her writing is very distinct, so I think that it is very easy to tell when her voice is more evident in the novella stories, and often those are my favorite stories in the bind up. I think the only novel that you can really compare this one to is the other novella bind up, Tales of the Shadowhunter Academy. This book tackles a much more emotional time in Jem’s life as he feels himself losing his emotions throughout his time as a Shadowhunter. The way that Clare portrayed his pain in losing himself to his transition of being returned to Tessa and realizing that being human again brought a different kind of fear and loss that comes with humanity, was effortlessly written and intertwined beautifully as the stories progressed. This book had better connection between the story than TotSA because of this progression in Jem’s emotion as Brother Zachariah before being exposed to the heavenly fire. The reason that I feel I was less driven to finish this book as quickly as TotSA was because I knew that the heavenly fire would return Jem to himself. In TotSA, the ending was not certain about what would happen to Simon’s journey based on the order that I read the book. However, when comparing the stories to TotSA, I think that the individual stories in GotSM were very concise and mixed Jem’s perspective very well with some of our favorite returning characters. This book will make you crave for the Wicked Powers to be released immediately. QoAaD made me interested in seeing where our favorite ships and characters would end up, but this book made that anticipation turn into this burning need to see what those books have in store.

Super sweet stories following Jem

I really liked this book. It had many short stories, and combined all of my favorite shadowhunters through the ages, past and present. Definitely read this if you enjoyed the shadowhunter books.

Ghost of the Shadow Market

This book is just amazing. If you read Clockwork Angel, Prince, and Princess it is just entertaining and very adventurous. The ending to Jem and Tessa's relationship is just beautiful nobody's heart got badly broken and they all married the ones they love. Will and Tessa got together and also Jem and Tessa. This is the Author is the best and Cassandra Clare really outdid herself and I love her for that. Please read this book if you are bored or want some light reading!!
