Girl, Forgotten by Karin Slaughter

Admittedly this is my first read by Karin Slaughter. It has its pros and cons. As someone in Emily Vaughn's age group, coming of age in the 1980s, it gave a very accurate portrayal of how unwed mothers were scorned during that time period. There should be some acknowledgement of these individuals where they're neither mistreated and ostracized, but not glorified with rewards like reality shows about them, and it just hasn't yet been found. What took two stars from my review is I can only take so much meanness, and the characters engaged in such brutal actions against each other it really surpassed my tolerance. On the plus side, I saw the number of expletives used as ugly and am omitting, if not eliminating my use of such terms. There were a bit many story lines--cold case of who fathered Emily's baby and murdered her; exploiting young "volunteers"; and the goings on of Andrea's mother Laura. Ms. Slaughter skillfully wove them together, though, so I'm now starting another novel of hers.
