In the 1920s and '30s, H.P. Lovecraft pioneered a new type of weird fiction that fused elements of supernatural horror with the concepts of visionary science fiction. Lovecraft's tales of cosmic horror revolutionized modern horror fiction and earned him the reputation of the most influential American writer of weird tales since Edgar Allan Poe. H.P. Lovecraft: The Complete Fiction collects for the first time in a single volume all of Lovecraft's groundbreaking fiction: "The Call of Cthulhu," "The Dreams in the Witch House," "The Haunter of the Dark," "At the Mountains of Madness," "The Shadow out of Time," "The Shadow over Innsmouth," the full-length novels The Case of Charles Dexter Ward and The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath, and many others. H.P. Lovecraft: The Complete Fiction is one of Barnes & Noble's Collectible Editions classics. Great copy of great edition

I bought the 2011 edition a couple of months back and recently I bought an old Chartwell Edition which has almost an entire page missprinted. Upon looking into the missprints I stumbled down the rabbithole of Lovecraft editions with missprints, typos and errors and I am happy and relieved to say my copy of the 2011 edition is free of those errors as far as I can tell. Therefore atleast from my part I give it five stars

Brand new, very damaged

I bought this book some time ago with intentions to read when I had time. Finally open it up to find that the words are printed over folded pages, and some of the pages are stuck together. Brand new. The book itself is beautiful but the quality leaves much to be desired. Will update if I find anything new or if I go through the return process.

Nice collection, lots of misprints

This is a really nice book, but as previous posters noted, not all new editions are typo free. I tend to find that most books that are error free and have pictures online are printed in China while my copy, that was still printed in july 2011, was printed in India and still has all the errors. Nevertheless I prefer mine over the China printed copy :P There is a Chinese collection published by Chartwell, but from the look of it , the quality of binding seems really low. I Think this one with a printed copy of the errata is a better choice

2011 Edition is NOT Corrected

I'm not sure why people are saying the silver version with the purple bookmark printed in 2011 has corrected the previous errors from 2008. I specifically followed reviews stating it was corrected and went to buy a copy at my local B&N today. As a writer, copyeditor, and proofreader myself, I was super excited to bust this open and get to reading. I immediately checked for the previously reported mistakes and was stunned to see they can also be found in my 2011 book with its silver pages and purple bookmark. This is shameful. I'll likely be returning the book since paying $30 for fiction filled with mistakes is ridiculous. I hope this helps someone else avoid driving 30 minutes across town for disappointment.

Unmissable

The amount of content this single book provides is as otherworldly as Lovecraft’s imaginations. If horror piques your interest like it does mine, trust me, this is a safe purchase, and I would say it’s a must. It holds tales of varied lengths, some really short, which might be a plus if you have little time to read. The book I received is different from the one displayed in the images at the time of purchase. The side of the pages are coated on a beautiful metallic silver, and the face of the book differs ever so slightly. The construction itself is very good. It’s a heavy book with a very sturdy leather cover (it still has that particular smell after two weeks of receiving it).

Great Value (despite the typos)

This is a well-made volume with stunning cover art complemented by silver gilding. It is an exhaustive Lovecraft collection in an easily readable text. Marred by frequent typos which are usually not mere random misspellings but rather are actual homonyms, causing the reader to wonder what the author actually wrote. 5 stars nevertheless, for completeness and binding quality at a very low price.

Don't buy this version!

I am a big fan of Lovecraft and the horror his work has inspired. The two stars is for this collection of his stories. The book itself i badly made. There is glue sticking out from under the space motif on the cover, glue hanging off the ribbon book mark, glue sticking out from under the end sheets. I could forgive all that but the words themselves have been altered. I turned to read one of shortest stories Lovecraft wrote and there were several obvious typos, things like "to" for "two", or "experiences" for "experienced". I wanted to get the Barnes and Nobles collection in particular for the annotations by the Lovecraft Scholar, Joshi so I give two stars for that, otherwise. I am disappointed. I wouldn't recommend buying this.
