Highly Recommend for readers of all ages!
Hatchet by Gary Paulson, is a fictional survival story about a 13 year old boy who struggles to survive alone in the wilderness after a plane crash. Spoiler alert ahead! Brian Robeson, the son of a divorced couple is boarding a plane from Hampton , New York to the Canadian north woods to visit his father. He boarded the plane when the pilot gave him a rather brief flying lesson. The pilot lets him fly around for a few minutes and they end up switching into proper positions after. Later on, the pilot starts to have heart attack symptoms which were very serious. This forces to Brian to take over the controls when the plane ends up crashing into a lake in the Canadian woods. He is injured, hungry, and sick when he discovers his bag with the hatchet Brian’s father gave him for one of his birthdays. He goes through terrifying days and nights finding himself running into multiple dangers each day. He starts getting the hang of finding food and chasing off wild animals. He even learns how to hunt birds and fish. However, only a few days later, one of his wild animal attacks did not go so well. He was hunting a bird and started to cook it when all of a sudden a moose attacked him injuring his chest and shoulder. After that experience he then had to go through a tornado. He refused to move for days and an extreme lack of energy. He brings himself eventually to get some water and eat some berries to get better. Overtime he builds up enough energy to explore the plane. He had been looking around in the plane for a while when he came across something labeled “Emergency Transmitter”. He fiddled with it seemed not to work. Only hours later was he discovered eating one of the freeze-dried meals he had also found. Brian had been stuck in the wilderness for 54 days and was extremely grateful to be out of it. This book put me on an emotional rollercoaster. There were so many scenes where my heart just dropped into my stomach. I definitely felt sympathetic while reading this book. However almost every time Brian woke up and went through his day there always seemed to be an event that made me drop my jaw. I could not imagine myself going through something like this and treating it how he did. His actions really surprised me and finally at the end I felt a sense of relief knowing he was safe and okay. This is an amazing book and definitely one of my favorites. I believe others should read this book as it was so thrilling to read and had me on my toes. I always looked forward to reading more of this book and it had me so interested. I believe this book is great to read even if you don’t particularly enjoy survival books. Overall this was a great read and I highly recommend it to others!

Problem-solving and surviving
I decided to read HATCHET by Gary Paulsen, so that I would have a better understanding of the story because I was helping a student with his assignment about this middle-grade novel. HATCHET gives me an insightful into Brian’s problem solving and surviving skills, as he’s the sole survivor of a plane crash. It’s raw, terrifying, disgusting at some points, and frustrating for thirteen-year-old Brian to learn to survive! The plane crash had changed Brian tremendously, that his mind and body had grown, and come together to make a connection with each other!

Motivational
I think the Hatchet book is very motivational. Some reasons why, is that the book contains many motives for people to use whenever they are in a tough situation, such as never to give up, try your best, never look back, and many others. This book was the best I have ever read maybe you'll like it too. Overall I would give this book 5 stars what would you give?

Great Book
The Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is a young adult fiction novel. I would say the age range is 13-16 year olds. I love the book though. I give it 5 stars. The book is about a 13 year old boy named brian surviving in the wilderness. His parents got a divorce and he boarded a small plane to go see his father in canada, but on the way there, the pilot had a heart attack. If you are someone that enjoys suspenseful and a bit sad of books, then you should read this book because it is filled with just that.

An inspirational adventure tale for the young ones
As an adventure story for middle schoolers, *Hatchet* is well-crafted. It tells the story of 13-year-old Brian, who gets stranded in the Canadian wilderness en route to visit his father. Trying to manage the rising despair and resentment incited by his parents’ imminent divorce, Brian is confronted with a much more literal life-or-death challenge. The metaphorical meanings of the perspective he adopts and the solutions he creates are subtle but clear. A story of struggle and triumph that is perfectly suited for its intended audience.
