After winning her mother's freedom from the Celestial Emperor, Xingyin thrives in the enchanting tranquility of her home. But her fragile peace is threatened by the discovery of a strange magic on the moon and the unsettling changes in the Celestial Kingdom as the emperor tightens his grip on power. While Xingyin is determined to keep clear of the rising danger, the discovery of a shocking truth spurs her into a perilous confrontation. Forced to flee her home once more, Xingyin and her companions venture to unexplored lands of the Immortal Realm, encountering legendary creatures and shrewd monarchs, beloved friends and bitter adversaries. Stunning & Heartfelt Sequel

Heart of the Sun Warrior is the stunning and heartfelt sequel to Daughter of the Moon Goddess. I loved the first book and couldn’t wait to see what happens next! Xingyin has finally been reunited with her mother on the moon. Yet the adventure is not over, as mysterious visitors come to the moon in search of magic. The Celestial Emperor has not forgotten Xingyin and her mother, while the Celestial Empress holds a fierce grudge against them. Xingyin will need her alliances, her magic, and the help of both Prince Liwei and Wenzhi to save her family and kingdom once again. Heart of the Sun Warrior is filled with betrayals, triumphs, magical battles, and romance. Sue Lynn Tan’s prose is so beautiful and flowing. Whether she is describing an epic battle or a romantic scene, every detail is exquisite. I love stories of Chang’e, the Moon Goddess, and I really liked how Sue Lynn Tan showcased her quiet strength and persistence in this retelling. Xingyin shows excellent character growth, making her a compelling character to follow. While love triangles can be tricky, I enjoyed how this one was resolved. I hope there are more stories to come in the world of the Celestial Kingdom! I’m excited to see what Sue Lynn Tan writes next.

Thank you Netgalley and Harper Voyager!

Thank you Netgalley and Harper Voyager for allowing me to read and review this book! All opinions and thoughts are my own. "...clinging to both light and dark, and lost somewhere in between... a child of mortal and immortal heritage, in the shade of my luminous parents." I've read a lot of amazing books in 2022 but Heart of the Sun Warrior surpasses all of them! After re-reading Daughter of the Moon Goddess, I knew my heart would break while reading HOTSW. I knew my soul would hurt. I could feel the anxiety creep through my bones as each chapter built and built. "The pieces were set on the board, and I only wished I knew what game was being played. One thing was for certain; I was done being a pawn, and if I moved, it would be of my own violation." Sue Lynn Tan is officially an auto-buy author for me. I fell in love with her cinematic and engaging writing during DOTMG and it was no different with HOTSW. I could feel, hear, and see everything from Xingyin’s point of view. This duology is now a part of me and I plan on re-reading Sue Lynn Tan's words every year. "For a life without love was a night without stars, and only the darkness awaited me now." The tension between Liwei, Xingyin, and Wenzhi is chefs kiss perfect. It frustrated me in all the right ways and each moment Xingyin had with both men is heart wrenching and left me an emotional wreck. "It was real. Lie to me all you want, just don't lie to yourself." I'm so excited Sue Lynn Tan's next two books, one set in the same world and the next of a different Chinese legend. Heart of the Sun Warrior is a gorgeous story with beautiful character development and bittersweet moments that will leave you longing for more in the best way. "True happiness springs from within, a contentment with oneself. And while it may be humbler and quieter, there is nothing more precious and lasting." Gosh, that ending...

The Sequel You’ve Been Waiting For!

With any duology, you have to wonder if the sequel will be able to maintain the same excitement and wonder of the first book, especially when many major plot points seem resolved. I can promise you that Heart of the Sun Warrior is exactly the beautiful and epic sequel to The Daughter of the Moon Goddess you were waiting for! The story picks up a year after the first book ends, with Xingyin back home with her mother on the Moon. Immediately the action starts with new threats, new adventures, and answers to your remaining questions from the first book. And of course the love triangle between Xingyin, Liwei, and Wenzhi continues as a secondary plot to the overall narrative. I don’t want to spoil anything for readers, but Sue Lynn Tan’s lyrical prose coupled with the characters, their arcs, the relationships, the subtle romance plot, the action, and the world building is seriously everything you could want in a fantasy novel. I highly recommend picking up The Daughter of the Moon Goddess if you haven’t already because this sequel is one you don’t want to miss! Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Voyager for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

magnificent, intriguing, captivating story

Heart of the Sun Warrior by Sue Lynn Tan is the 2nd book in her Celestial Kingdom Duology. Heart of the Sun Warrior starts a year later from where it left off in the first book. Xingyin has recovered from her injuries, and is happy to have returned home with her mother (now free) on the Moon. The love triangle between Xingyin-Liwei- Wenzhi continues to escalate, especially when Liwei visits her on the Moon often, and Wenzhi is determined to prove that he loves her, and learned from his previous wrongdoings. To Xingyin’s shock, she learns that her father is still alive, though in the mortal realm; but he returns to the Moon to see C’hang and Xingyin. Her peaceful time is shortened, as a new threat to the realm has been discovered, threatening all of immortal and mortal realms. Xingyin is forced to leave her home again, when her mother was sent to prison, and Xingyin must find a way to save her. The Celestial Emperor has been overcome by evil, and the throne is now been usurped by the terrible Wugang, who is now in charge. Xingyin and her companions, which include, Liwei, Wenzhi, her father, and others to convince other realms to join the fight and save the world. What follows is an exciting, tense, emotional, action filled attempt to stop an evil being and his army of death. There is so much going on in the last third of the book, as I held my breath as to who will survive, against the devastation of terror that threatens the realms. To say too much more would be spoilers and you really need to read this without me spoiling it for you. I did enjoy Xingyin’s feelings toward both Liwei and Wenzhi, but the love triangle was somewhat bittersweet. Heart of the Sun Warrior was a fantastic duology with an amazing conclusion. The Celestial Kingdom was a excellent high fantasy that was set in Asian mythology, with a wonderful heroine, and great secondary characters, villains, excellent world building and action-packed adventures. Sue Lynn Tan wrote a magnificent, intriguing, captivating story, which was so very well written.

I'm Sobbing, what a perfect ending!

I'm Sobbing, what a perfect ending! "As long as you are mine as I am yours, we have all the time in the world." I finally read the highly anticipated sequel to Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan and I was not disappointed, in fact, I noticed an improvement over the first book! Heart of the Sun Warrior is a perfect conclusion to this beautiful Chinese-inspired dilogy. There are intrigues, plot twists, battles and adventures in the book, but the best part is definitely the Romance and the love triangle that unfolds and works out perfectly in a magical and tearful ending! Even the various plots manage to end in the best way and for this I believe that this book is literally the perfect conclusion to this magical story! The characters are characterized very well and even if not all of them have their happy ending I think it is the right and balanced ending! Worldbuilding is a perfect element of this dilogy, in fact in this second volume the Celestial Kingdom is explored more and more and the descriptions are fabulous and really cozy! I highly recommend this series! Heart of the Sun Warrior is a literally perfect ending book! Thanks to Netgalley Harper Voyager Uk and Sue Lynn Tan for providing me with this ARC! Heart of the Sun Warrior is out tomorrow! Don't miss it!

A Beautiful Ending

"Sometimes there were no answers, sometimes we had to make them up as we went along." Xingyin is trying to move on from Wenzhi. Even though she has some reservations about Liwei, she loves him. Unfortunately, fate keeps throwing her back together with Wenzhi, but she will not forgive him because what he did was unimaginable. But the fate of the world is at stake, and she needs to focus on keeping her family safe and defeating the common enemy. "The most dangerous hate is that which festers unsated." *feelings* So many feelings and nowhere to put them. And no one to fangirl with about these feelings because this isn't even out yet. I didn't read book 1 until earlier this year and swiftly declared it a favorite read for the year, and that still holds. But book two is some swift competition because this one made me cry a lot, and I love a book that can make me cry. "For the fools do not fear the odds, the reckless do not care-and only the truly brave proceed regardless." There is something so special about the writing. It's lyrical and thought-provoking, and I highlighted many things I hope to keep reflecting on. While I'm not wholly a fan of Xingyin's mother because she is a bit flighty and weak, she is written well. The fact that Xingyin is such a strong character ultimately outweighs any lukewarm feelings I have for the Moon Goddess. All of the characters are fantastic. I cannot recommend this book enough. Thank you, Avon and Harper Voyager, for sending this along. "Death would feast well, gorging itself over the immortal table it had once been cast from."

A Fitting Conclusion to this Duology! Recommended!

Highly recommended for those who love to read Asian mythology, folklore retelling, an emotional rollercoaster love story with some action scenes! Heart of the Sun Warrior happens one year after DOTMG. The plot is well crafted, introducing new enemies and troubles arising that makes Xingyin has to defend her loved ones again. This duology is beautifully written, all the characters and world building are well developed and captivating. This book focuses more about love, forgiveness, family, acceptance, being truthful to yourself and sacrifice. It also explore more about the characters and their relationships, especially about the love triangle matter. Xingyin has to deal with lots of feelings and she's struggling to sort them out. The author did a great job in writing Xingyin's feelings that bring all the feels for the readers. As for the love interest, I'm not gonna spoiled it for those who haven't read it. I have to say after reading the whole book, I agree with the final decision which in my opinion is a really good one. Overall, this sequel serves as a good conclusion! I love how everything got wrapped up, it's a fitting end and I'm satisfied with it. If you love DOTMG, then you'll absolutely devour this one. Make sure to get it on November 10th! I'm really looking forward to read future books from the author! A huge thank you to the author for giving me the ARC! All thoughts are my own.
