Home Body

Rupi Kaur’s Home Body is an introspective and vulnerable collection that invites readers into a dialogue about self-worth, healing, and reclaiming one’s identity. Written in her signature minimalist style, the poems are interwoven with simple line drawings that complement their emotional tone. Kaur addresses themes of mental health, self-love, trauma, and growth with honesty and gentleness, encouraging readers to slow down and reconnect with themselves. The book feels like a quiet conversation—a reminder that healing is non-linear and that it’s okay to rest along the way. While Home Body stays true to Kaur’s accessible and emotionally open approach, it also feels more mature and reflective compared to her earlier works. The straightforward language makes it easy to read in one sitting, but the sentiments often linger, prompting deeper personal reflection. Critics may find the style too simple or repetitive, but for readers drawn to poetry that feels like a comforting companion, Home Body offers affirmation, empathy, and a reminder to treat yourself with patience and kindness. This isn’t just a poetry book—it’s a mirror.

Home Body is a raw, intimate journey through self-love, healing, and the constant process of becoming. Rupi Kaur once again uses her signature minimalist style to say so much with so few words—touching on themes like mental health, body image, trauma, and growth with honesty and vulnerability. What makes this collection stand out is how deeply personal and relatable it feels. Kaur invites the reader into her inner world, exploring pain and beauty in the same breath. Some poems feel like a hug; others hit like a punch to the chest. The gentle sketches scattered throughout the book add to the softness and strength of her words. This isn’t just a poetry book—it’s a mirror. Home Body reminds you that healing isn’t linear, and it’s okay to feel lost while finding your way back to yourself.

A Stunning Poetry Collection

‘Home Body’ is a *stunning* collection of poetry that paints a picture of just what it means and feels like to be alive today. In this moment of the history of time and space. What it feels like to feel so low and in the dark that it’s hard to see your way out. What it feels like to feel all hope leave your body and fear it’ll never return. But also, how to come back to yourself and take care of yourself and realize just how much your body, your HOME, has been caring for you while you didn’t pay it the attention it deserves. This collection of poems is about self discovery and self love and the community that exists in each self, and how we can raise everyone up. I read it slowly so as to savor every word (and read passages multiple times) and I’m so glad I did. This is a collection I’ll be returning to again and again. I’m in love with it.

Refreshing

What I admire about Rupi is how vulnerable she is. She is flawed and not afraid to show it. What I like about her third book is that is a blend of her previous books. I have enjoyed it so far and was introduced at a needed time. I also like how she illustrated this new book. So simple and classic. Great job Rupi!
