SHRINKS PILES and FALLS APART 1st wash!

My son loved this hoodie...until we washed it. I followed the laundering instructions but it shrank significantly, piled with this very first washing, and the lettering came apart and now has a ton of strings hanging from it. I can cut the strings but I can't fix shrinkage or that much piling. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!
