In the novel I am Malala written by Malala Yousafzai, I got to learn about how brave this young girl is. Previously, I wasn’t super familiar with this woman but knew she was famous for surviving a shot to the head by the Taliban. Malala was raised in a family that prioritized education, but the Taliban grew to make life in Swat Valley, especially for girls, extremely challenging. Before I purchased this novel it would have been nice to know that the majority of the book is about what life was like growing up in Pakistan, and not just about the major injury she sustained. This still wouldn’t have stopped me from reading this book again because it really puts into perspective how different life in America is, along with how fortunate we are. I would definitely recommend this book to a reader who wants to understand more about what life is like as a woman in a hostile environment. Overall, as a female reading this novel, I felt very empowered seeing how Malala could go through so much tragedy and still find the bravery to make a change in the world. This was a quick read that was very easy to become addicted to, therefore I would HIGHLY recommend it because it’s impossible to not be in awe of this strong woman.
