Fun Read
While this book didn't grab me as much as Oseman's other works, I still found this a fun and heartfelt story with some nice commentary on the relationship between celebrities and fandom.

An Amazing book!
Although I did not know anything about the book before I began to read it, Alice Oseman had done an admirable job with the diversity and relatability that the book, “I Was Born for This” contains. It talks about serious issues regarding privacy among celebrities and even talks about how the main character, Angel, struggles with her future job and what she’s going to do with her life. I would recommend this book to people who love the realistic fiction genre, would like to read a good-paced book (not fast nor slow), and have a drama-filling plot that keeps you reading. This is by far my favorite book that I’ve read this year. The overstretching idea of the book switches between two characters' points of view, Angel and Jimmy. It discusses Jimmy’s anxiety about fan intrusion and the whole boyband’s, “the Arch’s”, privacy invasion by the general public (their fans) and press. For Angel, it talks about her future journey and how she is confused about what she will do, and how her favorite band, the Arch, has helped her through this journey and in making new friends before seeing the band at the concert. When reading the book, I certainly had an eye-opening experience about what celebrities have to go through, and the struggles that they face with the press. Oseman distinctly described the fearful and stressful life that famous people have to go through, through the perspective of the Arch, and describe some of the many problems that celebrities deal with, such as being shipped with their co-workers, the worry of an intruder sneaking in, and not being able to enjoy their life as much when they’re popular. As mentioned in the book, Jimmy was terrified of going to sleep in his room at one moment, because he was worried that he would be in danger by a crazy fan girl that snuck in, in the middle of the night. Just reading this, has shown me what a privilege we have to live simple lives and not get bombarded by the paparazzi. One of many reasons why I consider this book to be my favorite book that I’ve read so far is because it does a great job of including a diversity of characters. You can find yourself in these characters and it serves as a view to younger and older audiences to show that they are seen. The characters include all races and ethnicities and consist of LGBTQ+ people, which is one of the many things Oseman does well in her books. This is one of the very few books that have a lot of representation, whether it be their ethnic background to the internal struggles these characters experience. This book has captured my heart in many ways and has helped me to relate to things I find in common with my life. Even though I didn’t know anything about the book before, I'm glad I got to read it and gain a new perspective on topics I had never really known that much about.

Instant Favorite
I bought a UK copy of this book earlier this year and it instantly became my favorite. I love that it explores both perspective of fan and artist. I love how realistically Alice wrote Jimmy’s anxiety! I love how religion is written into this book, but not in a way that feels intrusive or forceful. I LOVE that Alice wrote Jimmy Kaga-Ricci as a gay, trans, Christian. And I LOVE that him being all of those things is never brought to a negative light. Don’t misunderstand me, this is not a book about religion (and I am not a religious person). I just love those little things about it. The exploration of parasocial relationships is so good. I reread the part where Angel talks about her love for Jimmy, I don’t know how many times! And as always, Alice has great LGBTQIA+ representation in this book. If you are or ever were a super fan of any band/artist, I highly recommend it.
