In this "brave and heartbreaking novel that digs its claws into you and doesn't let go, long after you've finished it (Anna Todd, New York Times bestselling author) from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of All Your Perfects, a workaholic with a too-good-to-be-true romance can't stop thinking about her first love. Lily hasn't always had it easy, but that's never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She's come a long way from the small town where she grew up, she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily's life seems too good to be true. Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He's also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn't hurt. Lily can't get him out of her head. But Ryle's complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his "no dating" rule, she can't help but wonder what made him that way in the first place. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan --her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector.

Helps People to Understand

A lot of people don't like this book because it "romanticizes abuse". This is simply not true at all. In fact, I think it does the opposite. As someone who had never been a victim of domestic violence, it really helps me to understand why some women stay. While that isn't a great example, and if you are a victim of domestic violence you should leave, it helps outsiders to understand what it is like. Now maybe, some outsiders who have luckily never been victims of this, can show some sympathy and understand to victims, instead of ridiculing them for their own decisions.

Physical Abuse in a Relationship

What an emotionally charged story. FYI, this story deals with spousal abuse (men beating on women). It's also a love story, first loves and next loves. It's about how women deal with domestic abuse. All situations are different; no two people are the same, as no situations can be either. This is such a powerful story that everyone in a relationship and/or contemplating marriage (male/female/et al) should read. What would you do if your child came to you and old you that their "significant other" was hurting them physically or verbally?

Emotional and well written

This book is about a young girl named Lily Blossom and how she meets a neurosurgeon named Ryle. They told each other “naked truths" on top of the roof of a buiding and ever since then Ryle had a strong desire for Lily. Ryle is not the relationship material type of guy and is more of a one-night stand type of guy. He desperately asked Lily several times to let him please her but she always refused. They accidentally met once again when she was opening her flower shop in Boston and found out he was the brother of the new female she hired. Incidents happened throughout their relationship where either he pushed her off the stairs, or bit her collarbone where she had a tattoo of a heart and needed stitches. All of the abuse she was experiencing from Ryle, reminded her of her childhood & how her own mother was abused by her dad. The story is told from two different points of view Lili’s and Atla’s. She met Atlas when she was just 17. Fell in love with him as she got to know him as she was giving Atlas a helping hand, given his homeless situation. They bonded together on several occasions and ultimately fell in love with one another and made love. Many years passed without seeing one another and they both ended up in Boston. Fate brought them back together when she saw him at a restaurant called Root. Atlas sees the bruise on Lili's eye and Ryles's bandaged fist, ultimately not ending well. This book highlights the importance and struggle of being in an abusive relationship. I loved the way this book was written and I finished reading this book in just three days. Highly recommend reading it.
