In this "brave and heartbreaking novel that digs its claws into you and doesn't let go, long after you've finished it (Anna Todd, New York Times bestselling author) from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of All Your Perfects, a workaholic with a too-good-to-be-true romance can't stop thinking about her first love. Lily hasn't always had it easy, but that's never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She's come a long way from the small town where she grew up, she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily's life seems too good to be true. Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He's also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn't hurt. Lily can't get him out of her head. But Ryle's complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his "no dating" rule, she can't help but wonder what made him that way in the first place. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan --her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector.

Helps People to Understand

A lot of people don't like this book because it "romanticizes abuse". This is simply not true at all. In fact, I think it does the opposite. As someone who had never been a victim of domestic violence, it really helps me to understand why some women stay. While that isn't a great example, and if you are a victim of domestic violence you should leave, it helps outsiders to understand what it is like. Now maybe, some outsiders who have luckily never been victims of this, can show some sympathy and understand to victims, instead of ridiculing them for their own decisions.

Physical Abuse in a Relationship

What an emotionally charged story. FYI, this story deals with spousal abuse (men beating on women). It's also a love story, first loves and next loves. It's about how women deal with domestic abuse. All situations are different; no two people are the same, as no situations can be either. This is such a powerful story that everyone in a relationship and/or contemplating marriage (male/female/et al) should read. What would you do if your child came to you and old you that their "significant other" was hurting them physically or verbally?
