Ankle length jeans exceptionally long; runs small

I order these jeans in both the Wine color and the Light/Pastel Brown. The jeans are exactly as pictured on your website and are well made. I ordered a size 12 which is my regular size but these seem to run small as they were very snug in the waist area. One wash and I would not be able to get them on. The length of the pants were at least 4" longer than I needed. I'm 5'5'' and I would have been tripping over these. They are definitely not ankle length. It's disappointing because it is very difficult to find colored jeans ANYWHERE.
