Jacket Runs a Bit Big, Pants a Bit Small

I am a 39 jacket size, so the 40 was a tad bit loose, but the arms were the perfect length. As far as pants size, I am a 31waist and they come in 33. Surprisingly, they actually a loose fit around the waist (they didnt just fall off), but of course the legs were long. My assumption, and what I would like to impart, is that the pants waist runs small and the jacket runs big. I was scared if I went a size smaller, then it would all be too tight and since this tux runs in even sizes, I didnt have much of an option. Overall, it was fine, took them both to the tailor and for an extra 70 bucks I ended up looking like a million!
