Runs a bit small

My 5'7" / 143 lb hubby always wears a 39S in a RL blazer and just bought two on a recent Macy's sale. When this basic black came on in the fabric blend he prefers (70% wool / 30% synthetic) I ordered it for him. But while it fit in shoulders, it was a big too tight across the back and both sleeves and body were too short. Sales person told us it is not unusual for the black to run smaller than all others. Alas.
