LEGO Technic Volvo EC500 Hybrid Excavator 42215, 2359 Pieces
Product details
Web ID: 23269047It’s a nice build
I got the set for my 25th birthday and honestly I loved the build experience, it kept me occupied for a few hours and hits a seriously nice and cruisy build! Yes when it’s operating it is a bit slow but this is a great build and looks great on my shelf with the other Volvo sets! I’d highly recommend it.

Solid Build
This set was a fun build and fun to play with. It is a down grade over app controlled models and this can only do one function at a time. The box came damaged and several of the bags were open, but all pieces were present.
Macys Scams Consumers
Bought this set on sale, my order was cancelled due to not being in stock. However it's actively still in stock. What a terrible company.
Excellent
The excavator build was technically top notch was a real fun build over all excellent

Useless and has to many flaws
Useless and has to many flaws and errors in the product, it is not worth the price of the product, only one motor, super slow functioning, and lacks of range of motion for deep excavation when lowering the angle to excavate something. Bring back the Liebherr R9800 Set 42100 that was worth more than this set 10/10, was disappointed.

deeply underwhelming
It's big and looks impressive. The gearbox has some fun moments to build. But it just doesn't work anywhere near acceptably. To control the scoop in any reasonable way you need to be able to control different segments of the arm simultaneously, which you can't. It's hopelessly slow/underpowered (most of the power of the motor is absorbed by friction and backlash in the gearbox and drive train, not delivered to the actuators). The rough terrain crane 42082 similarly used a single motor and multiple gearboxes, but worked REALLY WELL (ok, the stabilisers were a bit slow) and was endlessly playable. This just doesn't. I can't imagine anyone wanting to use/demonstrate it. Most disappointing.

Better than early reviews
I was super excited to get another flagship excavator, but was discouraged by the low review ratings and price per piece. However, I decided to just buy it and decide for myself, and I’m glad I did because the build experience was well done and interesting along the way. It got my creativity going on how to improve it, make it move faster, motorize tracks, etc. so ended up being exciting. The way the movements are transferred to the arm is neat, and inspires new modifications (which is what makes Lego fun). Overall, it looks amazing, has new pieces, new build techniques, and was fun to build. The playability is not as high as the 8043, but it doesn’t take long to customize and increase speeds and functions. Plus, the new black linear actuators look great on my other cat excavator. Happy I looked past the early reviews and just bought it!

Someone at Lego is having a laugh…
…all the way to the bank. At us, the suckers that paid such a crazy price for such an underwhelming set. The price is “wow,” while the set is a solid “meh.”
