For giants?

I just received this set and was surprised to discover that both the fork and soup spoon are quite a bit larger than the current set I own. I have had my current flatware since 1991 and was ready to replace it with my "forever" set and chose the Portola pattern because of its clean lines and classic look. However, I had not realized how much larger some of the pieces would be compared to my existing set (see comparison photo). Also, while the weight of the flatware is nice--neither too heavy nor too light--the finish makes it seem more like a less expensive set one could purchase in a discount store, and I worry that it will show scratches and other blemishes easily, although it is too soon to have any proof of that theory.
