Reeks of mothballs AKA formaldehyde

Jeans fit well, but they absolutely reek of mothballs, even after washing. Hanging the jeans up to dry, my throat started to get sore and my nose started to run. Looking into this, I see this is a well-documented issue - apparently, new Levi's smell of formaldehyde, which is toxic. According to reddit, I could get rid of the smell-in theory-with a combination of soaking in alcohol, leaving out in the sun, then washing with vinegar and baking soda but... rather than put all this work on the customer... maybe just stop using terrible smelling, toxic chemicals in your manufacturing process. I had to throw the jeans out, as I was concerned about them still smelling around my kids. No thanks. From now on, I'll cough up money for more expensive brands, I guess.
