Started confused, ended completely feral 👀

Actual rating: 4.5 ⭐ Boy was this MESSY, but I loved every second! Ok, so let's do the math... The first half of Local Woman Missing had my brain missing, literally. I confused, questioning my own reading comprehension, and wondering if I missed a memo. The timeline jumps had me squinting at my book like, “Ma’am… where are we… WHO are we… what is happening??” But once it clicked? Oh, it clicked hard. The second half turned me into a full-on detective who has no business solving crimes but is absolutely committed anyway. Every twist had me yelling at the pages like I was watching a dramatic soap opera. I genuinely went from “huh?” to “OH NO SHE DID NOT” in record time. I was questioningly everyone that came on the page! The tension? Immaculate. The chaos? Delicious. The pacing? At one point I realized I hadn’t blinked in 10 minutes. The only reason it’s not a full 5 stars (although my ✨bipolar brain✨ might change that as I keep thinking about it) is because I spent the beginning feeling like I was being spiritually jump-scared by plot shifts. Once my brain started remembering it does comprehend things, this book OWNED me. If you want a thriller that confuses you, grabs you, and then throws you across the room emotionally. This is it.

A good story buried under odd structure

Quick Opinion 💭: A good story buried under odd structure Why I Read This 📌: Popular BookTok Mystery recommendation My Summary 📝: n a quiet suburban town, two women and a young girl go missing. Their cases stun the community and remain unsolved. But eleven years later, when the girl mysteriously returns, all three cold cases are suddenly thrust back into the spotlight, forcing secrets to the surface. My Review 🫆: The plot had real potential; an eerie premise with enough suspense to pull readers in, but the execution ultimately held it back. Kubica’s writing style felt inconsistent, and several narrative choices weakened the impact of the mystery. Most notably, Kate’s perspective played a major role in the story, but the complete absence of her wife’s point of view made the final reveal feel predictable and unbalanced. Additionally, Delilah’s brother’s chapters came off as awkward and jarring, and although they were meant to build toward a final twist, they felt more distracting than effective. There’s an interesting story buried here, but it’s muddled by strange structural decisions.

Holy plot twist! This is a must read!

Holy plot twist! This book has been on my WTR for so long and I’m glad I finally got around to it. I did not see the ending coming at all! Synopsis: when a woman goes missing while out for a run everyone suspects the husband. It’s always the husband right? But when another local woman and her daughter go missing the town is on edge. Is this a coincidence or is there a killer/kidnapper on the loose? This book was written so well. I loved the authors use of different POVs and timelines. Every time the timeline would switch I was like “nooo go back!” But the timelines truly brought this story together. The characters were all done really well and each character and POV added so much to the story. Even when I don’t figure out the suspect they are/were somewhere on my radar but this plot twist came out of nowhere & I loved it! This is a must read! Don’t sleep on it like I did!! Thanks to my library for a loan on Libby

Good Plot but Slow

Very interesting book! I loved the twists and turns, however the writing feels like the story is slowly dragging on. Still enjoyed it but I had to force myself to continue it in the middle, where it definitely slowed.

Full of surprises

This one was full of surprises. With a dual timeline, multiple character perspectives and multiple missing people, this was a great mystery. Told from the perspective of Meredith (then, one of the missing women), Kate (then and now, a neighbor), and Leo (now, Meredith’s son), you really got to know the characters and the back and forth between them and now kept you intrigued with finding more info to solve the case. I would definitely recommend.
