Rust Resistant 6-Qt. Cast Iron Dutch Oven with Cover
Product details
Web ID: 2394353Solid, well made, and well last a lifetime.
The preseasoning isn't the best, but a quick online search on how to season a cast iron pan should fix the only issue with this Dutch oven. Otherwise, toots is a solid investment.
Great pot
A solid heavy cast iron stew pot. Reminds me of my grandmother's. It's beautiful.
LODGE IS TOP NOTCH
If you take care of the product just as they tell you too they will last forever and they trap all flavor to enhance the taste within whatever you're cooking.
Good purchase
Great brand. Ordered the skillet and grill too. Looks great too
Pros and Cons to this Dutch Oven
I bought this dutch oven to make bread in. The box says it is "rust resistant" and "worry-free". I have experience with older cast iron skillets than often need a few uses before they are seasoned enough to not easily rust. However, after making a bread and washing, there were small rust spots forming on the inside of this dutch oven. After oiling and heating my pan, the rust was covered and not a problem. It seems as though the dutch oven is not really rust free and that I will need to season myself. I am thinking of returning this product although there are parts of it I really like. It would be worth keeping if it hadnt cost as much as it did. Seasoning the pan myself isnt a big deal, but it is a bummer not to get what you paid for... Overall, I would recommend it for it's looks and durability, but I would encourage you to find it on sale at its lowest price because there are cheaper similar items around that require self seasoning. Pros: -6qt capacity (not easily found in other stores) -unique shape and lid design only found at Macy's -an overall good looking and sturdy piece of cookware Cons: -not rust resistant or worry free like the box says -priced higher because of uniqueness -i have seen basic 5qt dutch ovens from this brand at other stores for a lot cheaper
another great purchase...
this is a wonderful brand. read many reviews before i bought, and am happy to have found this brand and this dutch oven.
COULDN'T BE BETTER
There isn't much care and feeding that goes into using and maintaining cast iron cookware. I promise there isn't. If there were, those of us who are domestically challenged would not be able to make great pot roasts and other casseroles in them. This dutch oven, heavy though it is, cleans up rather easily with a rough sponge after soaking a while. Use a lint free old cloth to season it when it dries (Heat pot on burner till it is a little warm, rub a little oil on it with a cloth, wipe out, then put the handsome cast iron dutch oven away.) Best of all, the food renders up more flavors than with no stick pans, which, rest assured, I will never throw away. Go to the blackboard and write fifty times: CAST IRON IS NOT THAT HARD TO WASH.
Not a bad Dutch Oven
We have made a few good meals with our new Dutch oven. After we use it cleans up great. I know it costs twice as much as the standard Lodge Dutch oven and they both probably cook the same. I bought it because of the different shape of the pan and the lid. It's good that you can put it in the dishwasher but I'm not going to do it. Hoping the harder service will make it more resistant to acidy foods like tomato sauce. Like most of today's cast iron pans --it's kinda ruff on the inside. I know they say it doesn't make any difference-- but the noise and feel of scraping a spatchla across the bottom is a little irritating. Pieces of paper towels come off when you are wiping it down with oil. The old Grizwalds are Glass smooth on the inside. Why can't they make them smooth today? Anyway-- I don't regret buying it and I will keep it as long as I live.
