silver plate worn off rather quickly

The ring was very beautiful when I received it, and the stones really do still shine and sparkle - BUT when the band looks so ugly who wants to wear it? The silver plate wore off to reveal a brassy awful color in several places, so it looks very shabby. I wonder about the other bands...do they last longer...
