A Great Read!
I loved the PBS program, but the book was even greater to read. A bit different maybe, or I just couldn't remember who the murderer was. But that's okay, gets me to read books over an over.

A Good, Classic Murder Mystery
“As far as I'm concerned, you can't beat a good whodunnit: the twists and turns, the clues and the red herrings and then, finally, the satisfaction of having everything explained to you in a way that makes you kick yourself because you hadn't seen it from the start.” My mom and I had gotten obsessed with the show “Only Murders in the Building” on Hulu and I was wanting a book that was a traditional mystery, not one that was a mystery/thriller and this book was on a few of the recommendation lists I found. Magpie Murders is very interesting because it is really two mysteries with two different storylines in one book. When the book first opens, we get introduced to an editor named Susan who edits these famous mystery novels by the infamous author Alan Conway. He writes these novels that follow a detective named Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries in towns in England. In his latest novel, Atticus is solving a murder that happens in Pye Hall and as the mystery continues, Susan starts to see that Alan may have put a real life story and murder in there and now she is on the case to find out what really happened. I really enjoyed this. It’s a true and classic whodunit mystery. The atmosphere felt exactly like a small, English village and it was one of those situations where everyone knows everyone and they are all kind of connected in some ways. There are a lot of characters to keep up with, especially considering the fact that there are two mysteries going on in two different places. I do recommend keeping a character list near you, so that you can refer to it when needed. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed both stories. While I do enjoy a story within a story, it can sometimes be difficult to care equally about both of them. However, I did in this book. Both storylines were interesting and kept me engaged the entire time when reading, even when they switched. There were great twists and turns throughout and wonderful uses of red herrings in both stories. I was genuinely shocked by who was the murderer and loved the way it was laid out and explained. This was truly just a really good time and I can’t wait to pick up more works from this author. It has also encouraged me to pick up more mysteries and not ones that are thrillers as well.

A must read for mystery fans!
Only an author with a wealth of experience in the mystery genre and in publishing could pull off such an amazing feat as Magpie Murders. Horowitz effortlessly weaves two fascinating mysteries together, sucking us into one and then tossing us to the other. Clues are laid out in intricate detail, ours for the taking if we only pay enough attention. A must-read for any mystery fan.

Ingenious!
As a big fan of Golden Age mysteries, I loved this book with its take-off on the genre. The interweaving of two stories in one was an ingenious plot device. I've just purchased another book in this series and can't wait to read it.

Two Stories for the price of one
I loved this book and it's story within a story plot. One story is about an Agatha Christie type detective solving crimes in 1955, I found the detective Atticus to be entertaining and similar to Agatha Christie's Poirot. the other is about the editor of said story. When she finds the last chapter missing. She decides to find out what happened to the author and her client Alan Conway. I liked having both stories in one novel
