Good rain protection for the price

I needed a lightweight rain jacket that could pack down into a small space in a backpack but offer decent protection from rain. Previous products I'd bought had failed to stay dry sooner than anticipated. This jacket is a huge improvement in this category and offers decent rain protection for the price.

Overall good initial performance

A very effective light weight rain jacket. Repels wind and rain (consistently keeps me dry). The quality of the outer shell over time remains questionable. The jacket shows wear marks from the zipper assembly after only two uses. Purely cosmetic for now, but I would expect something better from Marmot.

Not a true rain jacket

This jacket does not repel rain very well. It absorbs it almost immediately. I don't know how it is classified / marketed as as a rain jacket nor what people can really use it for but I was pretty disappointed spending the money. A heavy duty garbage bag performs better.

The PreCip excels in the fit, rain protection and breathability departments. I also love that it's lightweight and packs away easily. The only downfall is the lining began flaking after only a couple season of light use. I really expected to get more use out of it.
