First off the art is beautiful, I adore the woodland creatures! And I love uniqueness of the character designs, it really represents the quirks and personalities of everyone well. Also Nova's grandmas cool, I wish I had a bookshop like theirs near me. Speaking of which, all the characters seemed well rounded, except I wish the neighbor lady got a little bit more page time so we could get to know her a tad better, not that the outcome would've changed, I just like getting to know all the players. And I know I can't say much but… oh that twist! And the other twist! Some things were a little bit predictable but majority wise Mooncakes kept me on my toes and I love it for it! I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a cute (did I mention the art is adorable,) Sapphic, witchy, werewolf-y, fun fall read. Or anyone in general really. It's so good. I greatly hope that one day there will be a volume two to grace this earth.

Spooky Season Sapphic Adventure
This short little graphic novel was the perfect book to pick me up on an otherwise not-so-great day. With adventure reminiscent of LUMBERJANES, MOONCAKES is about a teenage witch reconnecting—and falling in love with—her childhood best friend, all while trying to defeat the horrible monsters that have come to visit their quaint town. With everything that makes a story great, the only problem I had with this story was that it rang a little cliché. Obviously, cliches are cliches because they work, which is why it didn’t bother me as much as it usually does in this book. But teenage werewolves, witches, and monsters in the forest…where have you seen that before? Nevertheless, MOONCAKES is a great read for the season!

Delightful graphic novel.
Delightful. New-adult aged protags. Nova - a teenage witch with a hearing impairment - never forgot her BFF, Tam ... but life goes on, and she is content with the not-entirely-exciting life of working in her (gay) grandmums' bookshop. Tam - who is a nonbinary werewolf - returns, however. And the two girls have to help save Tam for being forceably demon possessed by a coven of dark folks.

Enjoyable
I enjoyed this story. The art style was lovely and it had diverse characters. I loved that it was set in a bookstore. Interweaving magic and shape shifting in the real world made it more magical. It was a fast-paced read. I would definitely be interested in a continuation. I received an eARC via netgalley; all opinions are my own.

Love!
One of the first things that capture my attention was the drawing style that in my opinion combine with all the universe of magic described in the comic and the romance. The romance between Tom and Nova is really sweet and when the book finished I just wanted a new comic just about their life together, another point that I liked about this comic was the representativeness of two queer, Asian-American characters with Tom being a non-binary werewolf and Nova a witch that wears hearing aids. The magical universe in this comic is really interesting and I liked the final battle against the people of the cult and the way that Tom dealt with the demon. I left the comic with a lot of questions that didn't have anything with the main story and are one of the reasons that I want another book of this universe.

Simply magical
“Home is where you are, okay?” ★★★★★ This is the first graphic novel I’ve ever read and I was amazed. Besides the great drawing of characters and scenes this story is lovable. It doesn’t need to be written to let you know how the characters are feeling or thinking. While I was reading, I could notice the different emotions and points of view of each character just by the dialogue and the expression of their faces. That was a whole new experience in reading for me. The story for me was unique, it has diverse characters that deal with disabilities, orphanage, relationship with step-parents, and the main characters belong to the LGTB+ community. It had funny and unexpected moments, but in the world it made sense. The plot was clear and and the story unfolds so does the characters. In that way the characters become likable and relatable even in the most bizarre situations. It wasn’t predictable at all. At it had little twists that made the characters evolve and helps the reader figure out a bit about the past of each character I honestly liked this story a lot and it would be magnificent to read more about this amazing cast and world. Recommended for middle grades and teens.

Loved it!
Mooncakes was such a cozy read, and it's something that I should reread now that it's fall. It's a story about family and life after formal education (which apparently exists?) and discovering what you're capable of. Tam is a werewolf in search of answers about magic. There are rumors and hypotheses of werewolf magic, but they have no idea if it's possible. And if it is possible, how can they discover and control it? Their only hope is in finding their childhood friend Nova, a witch, and ask for help. This sets off into a story of self-discovery, uncovering corruption, and lots of magic. Overall, I really liked this book. Admittedly, now that I'm writing the review four months after reading it, I don't remember many of the details. But I do remember wanting to tell everyone to read it after I put it down, so that' has to be a good sign. I also connected with these characters a lot, especially in their subplots. Nova is feeling stuck in her home town because she decided to stay home with her grandmothers instead of going off to study witchcraft in another place. Tam is trying to find not just a place that feels like home but people that feel like home. Both of these were easy to relate to as someone in my twenties. The art in Mooncakes is absolutely beautiful and some of my favorite from any graphic novel. And that's really saying something considering I read it as an ARC with mostly unfinished art. (Although, I've since seen some of the finished art and it has only cemented what I just said.)

It's wonderful!
This was such a cute fantastical graphic novel! I love the diversity in here: f/f couple, enby character, pansexual characters, bigger sized characters, it was beautiful! The story was interesting and I liked how it played out in the end. The romance was ADORABLE.
