Unreasonable sizing

Great looking slipper that would have been quite functional/useful, but sizing is way off. I wear a size 8 shoe, so purchased “small” size but my feet fall out of them. Why do so few slipper manufacturers make “true-sized” slippers? What makes them think someone who wears a size 8 shoe would also be able to shuffle along in a size 9 slipper? Will be returning.
