Problem with return

I tried to return the crossbody bag at a macys store and was told they couldn’t credit my account because it was from a macys marketplace? I called the number on my bill and they said it could be returned to any Macy store. I had no idea I was purchasing something from a Macy marketplace. I never heard of that. Now, I will not purchase anything on macys website.
